I really want to try medium format film, but I don’t have a medium format camera and I really don’t want to spend any noteworthy amount of money on one.
Should I get a Holga (a cheap plastic toy camera that just happens to shoot medium format film) just to dip my toes into the water, so to speak? Will that turn me off of the whole thing, or will it send me spiraling down a rabbit hole that my bank account and I will never recover from?
Why can’t I just make a decision?
On an unrelated note, our drive to Vermont to see the kids tomorrow has been postponed for one day. That should not make me sad (we’ll see them Sunday instead of Saturday) but it really makes me sad. I think I might be overtired. Everything is getting to me right now. Go take a nap, Robert.
@robertjames1971.blog I had one of these way back when dinosaurs walked the earth and film was everywhere. It was good. https://www.ebay.com/itm/365190251808?_skw=yashica+twin+lens+reflex+camera&itmmeta=01JB396B9X7JK1JNBM2300YPTP&hash=item5507090520:g:Fp0AAOSwghFmtEFQ&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAABAHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKlrP5Hbksh2VazLoPt3sC8EkSwC6qgARtxASrH0jfdpjKOaHd%2Bd8eZkWilURKjmdMYJetmsPKGYA9j5OhhJQBZV1CHTFVecLIwS4ExwTaOItYFCDy4JtvfNYBhzjOEFMiQHF24uH%2FwiaHfPg6yxpATFxJmoXQ7NlpMTF2Qdbavw%2FotsFpx%2B%2BqodxaqNsrs6Da49%2BYlXXifIeLqO%2F8TTdAvdkunqFLkIINY1nRzVx459fmKpewLLtpxJG7%2FA5icPlb8EFwQGYsQ31vEOWsVZIV145DeMTNkyykcj7Re3voZRqCLPENIajlwGyWuTprdtLrU%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMhrWZ6dhk

@robertjames1971.blog That twin lens yashica I had was actually much better in some ways than the much more expensive Pentax 6 x 7 I got later. I got better results. The Pentax SLR had bad mirror slap, shook the camera.

@robertjames1971.blog Lots of brilliant medium format cameras can be found very affordably. Kodak Brownie No. 2 model F, Agfa Isolette, Minolta Autocord to name a few.

@robertjames1971.blog I wouldn’t go holga. Plastic cameras can be fun but it won’t give you a proper medium format experience, you won’t get to see what makes a medium format image special.
Borrow a camera from someone or buy something used you could resell if you don’t find an attachment to it.

How about using the Lubitel 166B? Not a toy camera, but nothing complicated either. A soviet TLR made in Ukraine… Not the best TLR available, but not the worst either. And it’s cheap!!

I wonder, are there any digital toy cameras? Would be fun, and I don’t really shoot film anymore.

@robertjames1971.blog get a Flexaret. Those are still pretty inexpensive TLR cameras made in the eastern block (CS) but pretty widely available.
Hola is a toy. Fun to use, but still just a toy
