Fabric Paranoid

I bought all of those clothes on Saturday. Today I got up early and did my trot/jog/faux run and then started some laundry. It’s the first time new clothes have gone into the wash.

Holy shit, this is going to be the lamest blog post in the history of lame blog posts.

Anyway, the washing machine is done so it’s time for the dryer. It’s also time for my laundry paranoia to kick in. Nothing I bought is 100% cotton, so I shouldn’t need to worry about shrinking stuff in the dryer, but I still feel compelled to air dry any new clothes. Why?

I don’t know why. I just feel like I need to. I’ll probably feel compelled the next time I wash the new stuff too, but after that I’ll get over myself and put it all in the dryer.

And there you have it folks, the lamest blog post in blogging history. Huzzah, right?

Splash

Remember all of that washing machine talk yesterday? I mentioned there are actually two washing machines. The big guy is the main one, but there is also another one in the pedestal that the big sucker stands on. When we bought the set we thought that was a good idea. In actual fact though, I think I used the pedestal washing machine once over the last two plus years and that was just to make sure it worked.

Last night after Jen fell asleep I went down stairs and washed a pair of jeans and a t-shirt in the pedestal. Again, just to make sure it worked. It did. The water lines into it worked and the outflow hose worked too.

Or so I thought.

When I was hooking everything up yesterday morning there was a little bit of water that spilled out of one of the hoses onto the floor. I kept forgetting to clean it up. This morning I took a little towel down cellar and took care of it. I figured I’d just throw the towel into the big machine and the next time I needed to wash clothes I’d was the towel with the rest of it.

I opened the side loading washing machine door and about a gallon of water sloshed out.

WhatWhatWhat?

The drum was full of water. How? It was empty when I took the last load of laundry out yesterday. Why was it full now?

Apparently the pedestal washer’s outflow somehow either drained into the big machine, or it drained out, went past the splitter on the out flow hose, and then backwashed into the big machine. Is that even possible? It must be.

I mopped up the new spill with a couple more towels and ran the unit in 15 minute quick wash mode. Everything drained appropriately.

The moral of the story is: Buying the pedestal thing was clearly a mistake and it will never be used again.

Weird Noises

The kitchen, dining room, and bathroom have all been cleaned. All that’s left to do is the kids’ rooms. Those are just as terrifyingly messy as one would imagine rooms belonging to a 10 year old boy and 12 year old girl would be. In other words, they are complete disaster areas. We’ll get to those next weekend when the kids are actually here. Other than that, everything we needed to clean this weekend has been cleaned.

I’m not sure where it call came from, but I took out nine bags of trash this weekend. NINE! I have no idea how that happened. I just know that I want to apologize to the Methuen Waste Management crew responsible for our neighborhood in advance. It’s nothing personal, guys. It’s just business. I mean that in the least ironic way possible.

There is one more on going issue for today. Simply put, what the hell is that sound that the washing machine is making? We actually had a little bit of a washing machine flood yesterday, but I have no clue what happened. I went upstairs and everything was fine, I went back downstairs and there was a puddle around the machine. I have since run the machine a bunch of times, including one time where I sat and watched it run from start to finish, and nothing happened. I am going to assume for now that I just overloaded the machine (I didn’t) and it caused an overflow. Now, however, the machine is in the wash cycle and it is making a weird, high pitched humming sound. I have no idea what’s causing it, I just know that the wet vac is ready to go in case of emergency.

Wish us luck!
