Netflix Fail

We pay too much money for streaming services. We (meaning, me) are TV crazies and watch a lot of shows across a lot of networks. We have been downsizing a little. That includes dropping from an add-free Netflix plan to a lower tier, add-supported plan.

Unrelated (yet), my favorite Walking Dead podcast, formerly known as The Walking Dead ‘Cast and currently known as The ‘Cast of Us, started a rewatch of The Walking Dead this week. I figured I’d play along. I went to Netflix to watch the first episode before listening to the podcast episode.

That’s when I found that the show is not available on add-supported plans. It is only available on add-free plans.

Screw you, Netflix. Screw you, right in your eyes.

Fall of the House of Usher: Possible Spoilers, Maybe?

I just finished watching the new Mike Flanagan series on Netflix. The Fall of the House of Usher. Eight episodes, kinda based on Edgar Allen Poe stories and poems. I don’t think I am spoiling anything, but I can’t tell for sure. If you’re planning on watching it and you’re sensitive to spoilers then maybe now’s the time to stop reading this post.

Okay?

Can I go on?

Okay.

I have seen all of Flanagan’s Netflix shows. I haven’t seen anything else he did. House of Usher is better than Bly Manor. Probably better than Midnight Mass. Definitely better than Midnight Club, though that’s not a knock on Midnight Club, I enjoyed it very much. It’s not as good as Haunting of Hill House, but that’s because nothing is as good as Hill House. That show was amazing.

Like most of his shows, I watched up to the last episode thinking that I was enjoying the series and yadda yadda blah. Then you get to the finale and oh my god the horror genre show turns into this massively emotional roller coaster that you did not see coming, even though after five series we probably should see it coming.

My spoilerish comment here is that I teared up over Lenore. Nevermore.

Stranger Seven

Tomorrow is our last day with Bellana before she moves back to Vermont. She’s been cheering me and Jen on as we binge our way through all four seasons of Stranger Things. She specifically asked us to save season four episode seven for when she’s with us tomorrow. Jen and I just blasted our way through episodes five and six, so we’re ready to go tomorrow.

I’m guessing something intense is going to happen in episode seven. I am ready. Bring it on.

Nutritionist Day

I have an appointment with the Nutritionist today. Not exactly sure what we’re going to talk about. Can I eat green veggies at will now? Can I eat bread yet? Should I change up my meal planning? Are there any more restrictions to think about? How’s my exercise routine working out? Should I start counting calories? All sorts of things like that.

I am working a half day. If the appointment ends early I might have some time for errands. I need to pick up a small order at the store I call Tall and Fat, I need to drop off a bag full of clothes for donation, I need to stop at the post office, stuff like that.

(Pause while I remove a small spider from the ecosystem)

I still have to put together the weight bench we bought a couple of weeks ago, along with a box of free weights. I’ve never been into lifting weights before so I am not sure what I should do with all of this stuff. Youtube will probably help me out.

Last night we watched the first episode of Stranger Things 4. I got some real Evil Dead 2 vibes and I am all for it. We also saw Thor: Love and Thunder in our first trip to a movie theater since the pandemic started. There were only four or five groups in the theater and we were all spread out. The only health issue we had was with Harry’s insulin pump, but that worked out fine and wasn’t really a problem.

The movie was good. It wasn’t as good as Thor: Ragnarok, but it was good. The laughs were genuine, the action was cool. My only beef was that it moved too fast. They cut it down to two hours, but it felt like another 30-40 minutes would have improved the story.

Okay then. Wish me luck on the Nutritionist appointment. Fingers crossed for low-fat Ritz crackers and quinoa, though not at the same time.

Things to Do in the Coming Days

Tonight after work I need to go to the store and buy a new belt. My jeans are kinda falling off and the belt I am wearing can’t go any tighter. It’s sort of an emergency at this point. A belt has been purchased online, I just need to go and get it.

After that, Bellana is super hyped about watching the first episode of season four of Stranger Things. We’re going to try and watch it tonight. Harry wants in too but he’s working and has an after-work task. Bellana’s at her aunt’s house. They are both going to be here tonight but they are going to be on the late side. We should still be okay but if not the make up date is Thursday.

Why Thursday? Because tomorrow night after work we are going to see the new Thor. Tomorrow is the make up date for the movie we were supposed to see over the weekend.

I also think I might be going somewhere and buying a lottery ticket tonight. The Massachusetts Mega Millions jackpot is pretty huge right now. Do I risk it? Where did I put my KN95 mask? Oh yeah, I have 100 of them and they are everywhere. Let’s do it!

Tonight’s Agenda

The plan for tonight is simple. First, make some mashed potatoes and fry up some ground beef for a sort of faux Sheppard’s Pie kinda thing.

After that… Stranger Things season three. The plan is to watch the first episode of season four with Bellana on Wednesday. Harry is going to watch season four with friends after he goes back to school. Bellana has already seen it but wants in on episode one… which implies that episode one must be world rocking.

Six minutes until the work day ends. Are you ready kids? Aye aye, captain!

ADDENDUM: I sure have been using the word “faux” a lot lately, haven’t I?

Movies Revisited

Okay, so the movies didn’t happen. It’s okay. It was a scheduling thing, not a fear of viral infection. We moved our tickets to Wednesday.

Instead we have continued with The Great Stranger Things Binge of 2022. We are in season two and we just watched that episode. You know the one. The one that is so terrible it makes you want to puke. Every episode of the series that I have seen (I haven’t seen season four yet) is an A+ excellent experience except for that one. That one is suck. Pure suck.

Now that we’re through it though… bring on the good stuff.

Come Home Already

I made it home from the office pretty easily. There was a little traffic jam in Waltham, but nothing too bad. It took me about an hour to get home.

I had dinner. 4.6 oz of roast beef. After 2.6 ounces I stopped. I’m not sure why. I was still hungry, I wasn’t feeling any nausea, it tasted good. I just needed to stop. I had a little sugar free pudding to try and fill my tiny new stomach, but I’m still a little hungry. I am not sure what happened. We’ll keep an eye out for any future occurances.

Bellana went to her dad’s house for a bit this evening. We are waiting for her to come home so we can watch the 1st season finale of Stranger Things. Bellana has seen all of season four so far. I was going to start watching it over the weekend, but Jen had never seen any of it and Bellana talked her into giving it a try. So Jen and I are watching it together. We burned through the first seven episodes in two sittings. I think my beautiful bride might be enjoying the show.

Okay, Bellana is almost home. Time to watch some tube.

Morning Madness

I slept a little late this morning but I was still able to get all 30 minutes of my daily exercise goal in, and I finished Breaking Bad. Finally. I know I still have the movie and the whole run of Better Call Saul to go, but the main show is done and all is well.

Last night I got all excited about the third period of game one of the Stanley Cup Final, only to see Tampa lose in overtime. As I wrote last night, I think I am on the Tampa Bay wagon, but if Colorado wins the cup I will be pretty much equally as happy. I have to admit that I sided with Detroit in the Great Avalanche vs Red Wings blood bath back in… whenever that was. Then Ray Bourque was traded to the Avs and I obviously switched sides. I’ve been a casual Avalanche fan ever since.

Still… threepeat. We haven’t had one of those since the Islanders won their fourth in a row in 1983. The Oilers then won four of the next five and five of the next seven, but the last actual threepeat was a fourpeat in 1983. It would be cool to have another one. I guess I am rooting for the streak more than I am rooting for the team. Whatever. It should be a fun series.

Did you see episode four of Obi-Wan Kenobi? Did you have your mind absolutely blown the way we did last night? Holy shit, I could not love this series more. I have been listening to a lot of Star Wars podcasts during this series’ run and a lot of them are down on the show. I think those people need lobotomies because this show is amazing. It’s bordering on perfect. I can’t overstate how much I am loving this show.

I read yesterday (or was it the day before) that they are going to show the entire series in theaters, and Obi-Wan Kenobi will sort of become the next official Star Wars movie. I am all for it. I told Harry last night and he was so excited he almost exploded. I don’t know how I am going to feel about it Covid-wise, but we’re already thinking of trying to go to a matinee of Thor: Love and Thunder as a possible first trip back to the theater. We’ll have to see.

What else… I was thinking of doing some car music today but I slept too late. Maybe tomorrow. Definitely over the weekend. I don’t have any songs ready for guitars yet, other than one that is ready for leads, so I want to finish the bass/drums bed for a couple more songs too. I have my big amp, the one I used at the last gig, in the music nook now and I want to use it. Things to do, things to do.
