Busy Day Ahead

My father’s wake is tonight. His funeral is tomorrow. It’s going to be a tough couple of days, but we’ll get through it. My step daughter is home. My step son expects to be home later tonight. My wife has been my rock. I love my family. If I hadn’t made it clear 10000 times before, I love my family and I am honored that they have accepted me into their lives the way they have. I couldn’t be happier.

I don’t know what I want to do with my time before the wake starts this afternoon. I think I am going to see about getting a hair cut. I have to iron a couple of shirts even though we don’t have an ironing board anymore. I already played some guitar this morning. I recorded leads for three songs and now I don’t have any songs that are ready for guitars. Gotta get on that and add some new ideas.

I’m sure I’ll add some nervous posts between now and the end of the wake. For now though, enjoy today’s photo a day pic. 5/365 (and also a bonus pic). Guitar, of course.

2024 50/90 Challenge Day 63/90

I put both rhythm and lead guitars onto two songs. They both already had vocals so they are now both ready to mix.

That’s a ton more than I expected to get through on day 63. I’ll take it as a win.

More Playing Time

I was able to sneak in my full day’s worth of exercise after work tonight. It was borderline miraculous and my legs are killing me.

I also snuck in more guitar. I put rhythm tracks onto one song and leads onto two.

Bonus. Now I am going to hang out and wait for my step daughter to come home. She’s on her way.

Bonus indeed!

Oh yeah, and I also uploaded those photos I forgot to upload this morning before I left for work. That second one is 4/365 for the photo a day thing. Let’s just call it a complete day and pat ourselves on the back a little.

Turn Around

I left the driveway for work at 7:40 or so. I drove until about 8:10 and then something came up at home and I had to turn around and head back. It took less than 10 minutes to get home.

And now you understand how Boston traffic works once Labor Day is over.

At least I took today’s photo a day pic. 3/365.

2024 50/90 Challenge Day 61/90

I put vocals onto five songs first thing in the morning. That’s all I got to for the day.

Today (day 62, Tuesday) and tomorrow are work in the office days so there won’t be a ton of time available. The next couple of summary posts are going to be thin. Just saying.

Labor Day Car Music

I made it out for some car music this morning. I recorded vocal parts for five songs and I also drew a crowd.

There were also a lot of actual people around, just walking around the parking lot getting their daily exercise in. Leave me alone, people! Don’t listen to me singing! Don’t listen to me singing, damn it!

2024 50/90 Challenge Day 60/90

I kicked off September by adding two new song ideas. MIDI bass and drums are done. No guitars yet, but there is a MIDI guitar guide track. I also added the melody, with a MIDI piano track to use as a guide, and the lyrics for both songs.

September is here and it’s off to a good start.

2024 50/90 Challenge Day 59/90

Day 59 had some good progress. One song got both rhythm and lead guitars and three others got lead guitars. Later on, all four of those songs were mixed and uploaded to alonetone.com and are officially finished.

With that, August comes to an end. Today is day 60 and the first of September and while we ignore the sad fact that September brings with it the end of summer which is utterly fucking depressing it gives us a chance to reflect on the progress made in August.

In August I started 14 new songs and I finished them all. Simple. That means that my mini challenge to write and record an album entirely within the month of August (by RPM Challenge rules, 10 songs or 35 minutes) is also a success.

To recap the 50/90 project as a whole (which I think I already did in a post last night), The Started and Finished in July bucket over on my Trello board has 20 songs in it. The Started and Finished in August bucket has 14 songs in it. The Started in One Month and Finished in Another bucket has five songs in it. The Lyrics and Melody Written and Ready for Vocal Tracking bucket has three songs in it, all started in July. All other buckets are empty.

Time to start coming up with new song ideas. Bring on September.
