Traffic is Funny

Here’s an example of why traffic in greater Boston is funny. I don’t mean funny as in hahaha, I mean funny as in I am so mad I want to claw my eyes out.

I drove about 70 miles to get to work today. It was pouring rain the whole way. It was also seriously foggy out. The fog plus the rain plus the spray coming off of everyone’s tires meant that visibility was only slightly better than zero. For almost the entire drive I was up around 70-75 miles per hour. I made excellent time.

Yesterday it was gloomy out but other than a little drizzle at the tail end of the drive it was dry. No precipitation, no fog to speak of, no road spray. It had rained the day before though. How did I do for time? There were pockets of gridlock everywhere. The drive took 30 minutes longer than it took today.

Rain today = no traffic jams.
No rain today but rain yesterday = huge traffic jams.

See what I mean about “funny”?

Anyway, here’s a picture of a guitar to try to guilt myself into playing before work tomorrow, when I will thankfully be working from home again.

Laughing

Daily writing prompt
What makes you laugh?

Lots of things make me laugh. Laughing is fun. Laughing makes humans feel good. I once wrote a song called “Laughing” and one of the bands I was in played it for a while. It was written in that dark period in my life after I dropped out of college the first time and if I remember it right it was about how sometimes I was so incredibly depressed that I would laugh at how miserable I was. Yeah… so that’s a bad example… maybe.

The question is, what makes me laugh. Jen makes me laugh. My wife has the sharpest wit and the best sense of humor. Every once in a while she’ll blindside me with something so funny that I just lose my shit. It’s one of the billion or so reasons why I love her so much.

My step kids make me laugh too. They are both adults now and they spend their days doing adulting things so the silliness they excelled at when they were little is a thing of the past. Back then they would slay my sense of humor on a daily basis. The Birdie Dance. Raspberry Pickle. Yeah, we laughed a lot. A lot. These days they are more serious most of the time, the way adults are supposed to be, but they can still cause me to erupt into a belly laugh that shakes the universe. They are awesome like that.

There are other things that make me laugh. Things that are funny often make me laugh. Things that are not funny don’t. It’s crazy how that works out, right? Funny stories are funny. Funny movies are funny. I quoted Dodgeball last night. I had an itch on my arm and I scratched it and my razor sharp fingernail cut me a little and I had to unironically proclaim that “nobody makes me bleed my own blood!” I guess I even make myself laugh… you easily self manipulated dumb ass.

Funny is just funny, you know?

Hey https://gencraft.com/generate, generate an image of a jedi knight laughing…

That is one creepy ass a.i. generated image of one creepy ass yoda-sith. I am going to see this in my nightmares forever.

TV Trouble

I think I did something wrong tonight. An entertainment mistake, if you will.

We had a watch party with Harry tonight watching episode three of Hawkeye. It was pretty good.

Afterward I was just sitting in the living room staring at the Apple TV Home Screen and I figured I’d pick something new. I tried HBO Max.

I found Tacoma FD. A show made by and staring two members of Broken Lizard? The geniuses behind Super Troopers and Beerfest?

I’m two episodes in. It’s really silly and dumb. It’s really just Super Troopers with a fire department instead of state troopers….

…but I’m sitting here laughing my big dumb ass off.

Uh oh!

Marvel Zombies

So tonight’s episode of What If is the zombie episode.

No spoilers. I promise.

However, if you are like everyone in my family other than me and you find zombies too disturbing to watch, you might want to give it a miss. At the same time though, there is a lot of humor in the episode, so if you love the funny and think you can handle the scary, give it a try.

Okay. That’s all I am going to say about that.

Oh, and I think I just read that Star Wars Visions (the anime anthology series) premiers on September 22nd. So we have that going for us, assuming I didn’t misspell anime.

The Pandemic Effects Us All

I just got a letter. When was the last time you received an actual hand written letter in the mail? It’s been ages.

This one was interesting as it pointed out an unthought of effect of the global pandemic that is both a terrible thing and a wonderful thing depending on your point of view.

The envelope contained two things. One, as mentioned, was a handwritten letter addressed to me. The writing was a little sloppy but I believe the signature said Gloria. The other item in the envelope?

A Jehovah’s Witness pamphlet.

I’ll give you a couple of minutes to stop laughing. It took me about 10 to calm down, so I’ll give you that much at least.

Okay, better? Okay.

The letter opened with an apology. The author (again, Gloria?) expressed her disappointment at not being able to come and see me in person, but due to the corona virus (two words) pandemic she could only keep in touch through the mail.

I’ll give you a couple more minutes to stop laughing.

Okay, better? Okay.

When I stop and think about it I realize how selfish I’ve been. Here I am worrying about the effects of the lock down on my family and friends and on all of the people who cannot work, or who have to work in potentially unhealthy circumstances despite safety warnings and I never once stopped to think about the plight of the missionary community and how hard it must be on them to not be able to canvas random neighborhoods and knock on random people’s doors and save their souls through the good news of whatever cult they happen to be shilling for that day.

Okay, we’re all going to need a few minutes to stop laughing. You’re welcome.
