DIY Desk

The main focus of the IKEA project today was a huge new desk for my wife’s office. It isn’t an actual desk. Call it IKEA meets DIY.

There are a bunch of additional projects happening today, but the desk is the big one. It’s pretty much all setup now so Jen can work on it. It came out really nice.

I think we’re running out of gas for today. We’ll sneak in a little more work. A couple of things have been postponed to tomorrow so we will continue. This little home improvement day has been a good one.

Kitchen Crazy

Daily writing prompt
Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.

I do a lot of musical DIY projects, but that isn’t my answer today. I’m right in the grip of my 17th RPM Challenge. I’ve done the 50 songs in 90 days challenge a bunch of times and have even succeeded on a few of them. That isn’t it though.

Our kitchen is about to be remodeled. The project starts today. It is not a DIY project though. We hired a contractor this time.

This time.

The last time though… We’ve been picking at the kitchen for a few years. The last couple of little changes were DIY. One of them was hanging a cabinet and counter top that we bought from IKEA. They have a neat system for hanging things. I thought it was going to be beyond us, but we pulled it off… mostly. It was a little crooked on one section. Just a little.

I am pretty sure that counter and cabinet are not going to survive the new project. We looked into having the contractor move it, but there doesn’t really seem to be enough room. That’s okay though. It was always meant to be a temporary thing until we figured out a way to do the real project. The real project being the sucker that sort of starts today.

Big changes coming to our house. We’re pretty excited to see how it goes. Wish us luck.

I Have a Screw Loose

I have a screw loose, but you all knew that already, Har Har Har.

But seriously, folks. My glasses. One of the arms was super loose. Last night I had this vision, more like a nightmare except that I was awake, of being somewhere in North Carolina and having the arm fall off of my glasses and not being able to drive anymore because I’m half blind.

Jen has a little screw driver kit on a key chain that’s meant for glasses. I borrowed it but I couldn’t see the loose screw without my glasses on and I couldn’t fix the loose screw while my glasses are on.

Jen helped me out because she’s a saint. All is well now. Thank you, my love.

Yet Another Kitchen Upgrade

More kitchen changes? No… you’re not serious.

Yes. We are serious.

BOOM!

A new cabinet with a counter top and a peg board to hang utensils and pots and shit.

Drywall mounts, a stud finder, a drill (two different bits). All sorts of construction worker stuff.

I was terrified of all of it and now that we’re done I’m still terrified of all of it. Yikes!

New Song that is Actually New

Here’s a song from the aborted album in a day I tried on the day that the bathroom remodeling project started. I mixed it with ear buds so I’m sure it sounds like dung.

I don’t like the lyrics and I don’t like the melody in the verses. What do you think, is the rest of it worthy of bringing to the band? I’m undecided.

The Last RPM Song!

That’s it kiddos, I’m done with RPM for another year! The last song has been mixed, the cover art is done and the running order is set. All I have left to do is burn a CD, print the cover, and drop it off at headquarters.

I’ll share a playlist with the final running order soon. Probably tomorrow. For now? Sleep!

And One More Makes 11

Song #11. I started this one last night, after I had already sketched out song #14, with 14 songs being the goal. So this is sort of overkill, but I like it more than most of the other songs so it’s a keeper.

RPM Song #9

Let’s take stock of the ol’ RPM Challenge, shall we?

The goal is 10 songs or 35 minutes of music. Right.

I currently stand at 9 songs and 34:41.

SONOFA!! 19 seconds short!

I have four more songs in progress. None of which have lyrics yet. That’s the sticking point right there now isn’t it.

I’ll have before work time on Tuesday. On Wednesday I took a vacation day, but the kids are on school vacation so I will only have a couple of hours in the morning before I go get them at their dads. Thursday is telecommute day, but the kids will be home. If I can’t get the rest of the songs tracked (including one more that hasn’t even been started yet) by the early afternoon on Wednesday then FAWM is a bust. I need 14 songs to finish that one. RPM looks good. One more lyric/vocal and it’s done, and I can do that Tuesday morning. After getting the kids on Wednesday the plan will be to mix whatever is left. I suppose if I’m close to 14 I could always sit in the car and sing. Maybe drive to some empty parking lot somewhere.
