On the Ground

My step son’s plane landed a little over an hour ago. My wife went to the airport to pick him up and they are on their way home now.

Another happy landing! The plane is on the ground, safe and sound. Welcome back to Earth, Harry!

Flying

My step son woke up this morning in Scotland. He’ll sleep tonight at our house. He’s already part way through quite the travel journey today.

I used flightaware.com to watch his first flight, from Aberdeen, Scotland to London, England. In less than five minutes he is scheduled to take off on his second flight of the day. This one from London to Boston. He’ll land sometime around 9:00pm, or a little before then.

As is always the case when one of the kids is traveling by air, I am nervous. Hell, I’m always nervous, but like the good American who comes from Irish immigrants, I suppress my nerves and emotions and just bottle them up until I explode. See the collected works of Dennis Leary for more stereotypical information on this stereotype that is probably not accurate but sometimes feels like it is.

Yeah, I am nervous. I watched the first connecting flight circle Heathrow airport a couple of times and I started getting scared that there was something going on in London. Nope. Just a busy day at the ol’ airport. Everything is fine. Everything went fine. All is well.

Flightaware says the plane is taxiing for take off. I’m not superstitious, but I (figuratively) have my fingers crossed. Here’s hoping for the best.

Safe flight, Harry. See you on the ground, back home in the good old U.S. of A.

Morning Cats

The cats don’t tend to visit me while I am working, but for some reason they did today. Maybe they know I am in my step son’s bed room and he’s flying home from the UK today. He is currently in the air, on his way to London to grab a connecting flight to Boston. Can the cats sense that?

Anyway, I took some pic because that’s what I do.

Lily promised me she wasn’t the one who messes with the plant clipping I wrote about yesterday.

Yeah, whatever you say, feline. Whatever you say.

Lunch Break Post

I have made it to my lunch break on this the last day before a few days off for a long weekend in Florida. Is my motivation draining as my vacation gets closer and closer? Yes, yes it is. Will I remain productive through the second half of the day despite the obstacles? Yes, yes I will.

Our bags are packed. Jen has a few items she uses for work that still need to go into a suitcase or a backpack, but other than that we’re all set. I took two cameras, my digital Nikon Z5 and my 35mm Nikon FG-20. I have four rolls of film besides the one that’s already in the camera. I am going to follow the same workflow as the last Disney trip back in January. Use the film camera when I get to a park until I finish a roll, then switch to digital. That worked pretty well last time.

I get out of work at 5:30. We are hoping to be at the airport by 6:30-6:45 or so. Traffic will be worse than usual as it’s raining (again) today. The heavy traffic will be going away from the city though, so we should be able to get in to Boston with time to spare.

Our flight is pretty late this evening so we won’t be getting to the hotel until the wee hours of the morning. I think we’re getting a meal on the flight though. I expect to use some protein bars to get myself to my 80 gram daily protein goal before I leave the house, and then just grab some sugar free snacks at the airport to eat on the plane. I don’t trust airline food to be gastric bypass friendly. I don’t want to have stomach issues on the plane. That would be annoying. My redesigned stomach and I need to be extra careful today.

What else… I have a meeting at 3:00. That’s the only thing left on my work schedule. I will sneak upstairs and put the bags into the car after Jen finishes her work day so that the minute I punch out we can leave. I made a checklist in Google Keep to track things we need to do today. The only things left for me are to finish the laundry, put the freshly washed sheets onto the bed so that when we come home we’ll have happy clean sheets, and then make sure the cats food and water bowls are topped off. Harry will be here soon to cat sit, but I want to make sure we’re in the best position possible before we leave. I put fresh litter into the litter boxes this morning. That plus full food and water bowls will mean the cats don’t have anything to complain about. We have to keep the ladies happy, you know?

Okay, lunch break is winding down. Time to get back to reality. I’ll try to post a cat pic or two before we leave. No promises, but I’ll see what I can do.

Flight Update

Bellana’s flight is in the air. According to Flight Aware, she is currently West of Ireland which means she’s over the ocean. Is she technically outside of Europe yet? I’m not sure where the actual continental border is.

She had a delay before taking off, but not too bad. Only an hour or so. We are expecting her to be on the ground by 7:00ish. Jen and I will be there waiting for her.

I’m so excited!

In the Air

Bellana’s plane is in the air. She’s going to be crossing the US/Canadian border shortly, somewhere West of Saint John, New Brunswick.

We got some texts through just before she boarded. We wished her a safe flight and told her that we love her. Next stop is Amsterdam, around 1:30am or so our time. I will watch the flight tracker for as long as I can, but if I am still awake when she lands it’s going to mean a really crappy day at work for me tomorrow. Old people like me need all the beauty rest they can get.

Harry’s here. We thought he wouldn’t get here until after 9:00pm, but he walked in around 7:00. Bonus. We watched episode three of The Book of Boba Fett and all is well. Go ahead and talk about it. You can’t spoil me anymore.

It’s just a distraction as we wait for happy landing news from The Netherlands. That’s the kind of good news I need in my life.

Day Off

It’s 8:53am. Time to punch into work, so I think I’ll go over to Netflix and pop on a show.

HA!

I’m off today!

Some music, some TV, some cleaning, some stressing over Bellana flying to The Netherlands, some cat stress due to needing to take her to the vet.

I have a full day ahead, he said sarcastically. I think I’ll go get some breakfast.

Note: While I am being all gloaty and stuff today. Rest assured I’ll be paying for it with stress tomorrow. What goes around comes around and all that.
