Nurses

The cats have mostly steered clear of me since I started feeling sick. They did come and visit this morning for a few minutes. I think it probably had more to do with their water bowl being low than with trying to nurse me back to health. Oh well.

2:20pm on Day Three

I woke up around 4:00am, had some water and some meds and went back to sleep.

Woke up at 8:00am, had some water and some meds and some breakfast and went back to bed.

Woke up at 12:00pm, had some water and some meds, had a kids meal from Chilies via DoorDash for lunch, did the dishes, scooped the litter box, topped off the cats food and water bowls… and I am thinking about going back to sleep. I’m thinking of having a little more water first. I still have five minutes to wait before I am cleared to drink anything. After that I might take another nap. Or, I might just watch TV for a while and see how things go.

I am definitely feeling like crap today, but being exhausted is the biggest symptom right now. Maybe I’ll be able to sleep it off a little. We’ll see.

Holidays

Daily writing prompt
How do you celebrate holidays?

Alert! Alert! Bad Question Alert!

Who said we celebrate holidays? Well, depending on the holiday, of course. How does one “celebrate” Veteran’s Day for instance?

Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, we do all the standard stuff. I guess the only way to answer this broad, vague question is to say that I celebrate holidays with family. Jen at least, but the kids come home for the big ones. There are some holidays we more or less ignore. Easter, for example. We don’t celebrate Easter at all.

So this was a bad question. Too broad and too vague and just bad. It’s been a while since the daily prompt was as rough as this. Here’s hoping they follow it with a streak of good, fun prompts. Fingers crossed.

4:18am on Day Three

I woke up at about quarter to four in the am after getting maybe four and a half to five hours of sleep. I was dead tired when I went to bed at about 11:00 last night and I was hoping I’d sleep through until my alarm went off at 8:00am but no luck. I got up a few minutes ago thinking I’d have some water and take my morning vitamins and some Tylenol. I might take my temperature too as I feel a little feverish. I don’t need to, I am just curious about numbers the way a good Programmer/Analyst is always curious about stats and figures. You know how it is.

I will take my second Paxlovid dose at 8:00am today (hence my 8:00am alarm clock). I’ll take the first dose of the cough suppressant whose name escapes me right now as well. Jen has the same prescription. I made one gastric bypass mistake last night and it probably affected my night’s sleep. I’m taking Tylenol for the fever. I was clear for a final dose of the day at 9:00pm last night, but in order to have a drink and take the meds I needed to stop eating by 8:00pm. I need to wait an hour after eating before I can have a drink. I never want to go to bed with an empty stomach, and I had a drink with the Paxlovid. I finished eight ounces of water at 8:15, waited 15 minutes (I only have to wait 15 minutes after a drink to have something to eat) and started filling up my stomach at 8:30. I didn’t even think of the Tylenol until after 10:00. I tried to wait an hour before going to sleep, but after about 25-30 minutes I was toast and just gave up and let myself conk out. I’ll try to do better tonight… dumbass.

Okay. I am so tired I am having trouble focusing my eyes on the computer screen. I think I am going to go back to bed and see what happens. Welcome to day three, everyone! How exciting!

8:08pm on Day Two

I just took my first dose of Paxlovid. Bring on the crappy side effects and the chance of a back slide into a second bought with The ‘Rona.

I also have an inhaler to use if I start wheezing or have trouble breathing, and a cough medicine. I’ll start the second one in the morning. The inhaler I hopefully will never have to use.

My wife seems to be a tiny bit better today. We were just talking about it and she’s hoping to be able to go back to work in a limited capacity in a couple of days. I am looking at Friday as hopefully the day I can at least sit at my desk and respond to email. We’ll have to see.

6:27pm: Day Two

My primary care doctor came through with some prescriptions, including Paxlovid. My wife has been taking it for a couple of days and the side effects are kinda gross, but if it makes Covid easier to deal with then I’ll give it a shot.

I talked to my father for the first time since we came home and gave him the story of the Disney Fail. He’s concerned but we’re both okay. No worries here.

We have been living in instacart/doordash world since we got home from Florida. The theme so far has been breakfast. Not breakfast for breakfast, but breakfast for lunch and breakfast for dinner. We’re eating breakfast for dinner as I type this. Scrambled eggs and bacon. Good stuff.

(Mostly) Daily (dumb) Haiku for You #32

Early this morning, around the time I posted the day’s first post but hours before I took a Covid test, I wrote two stupid haiku. One that I would share if I tested negative and one if I tested positive.

Tested positive
Three years I avoided it
The streak is broken

Now today I think you are going to get a bonus haiku, partly because I want to document something I did today so that I won’t forget it in the near future.
