Please pardon the gratuitous my-wife-is-gorgeous post.
She had her hair done yesterday and it is totally different. It looks beautiful, it looks adorable. I love it. I will try to stealthily grab a picture as soon as I can.

January 23, 2013. We are eight days and a wake up away from the start of album in a month month. Otherwise known as FAWM and the RPM Challenge. I don’t feel mentally prepared. I felt the same last year when February arrived and yet managed to finish both projects on time for the first time ever. Maybe not being ready is a good thing.
If that’s the case, then maybe it’s a good thing that the 2013 version of both websites still hasn’t launched. Looks like I’m not the only one who is unprepared.
I plan on giving both challenges a shot, as always, but after finishing both on time last year the drive is lessened by quite a large amount.
We shall see.
Rush is going to be touring in North America again this Spring. They released a set of dates this morning (or was it last night?) just prior to their European tour.
| April 23 | Austin, TX @ Frank Erwin Center |
| April 26 | Ft. Lauderdale, FL @ BB&T Center |
| April 28 | Orlando, FL @ Amway Center |
| May 1 | Nashville, TN @ Bridgestone Arena |
| May 3 | Raleigh, NC @ PNC Arena |
| May 5 | Virginia Beach, VA @ Farm Bureau Live At Virginia Beach |
| May 7 | Baltimore, MD @ 1st Mariner Arena |
| May 9 | Uncasville, CT @ Mohegan Sun |
| May 11 | Atlantic City @ Etess Arena |
Pre-sales start today. I’ve been to a couple of shows at Mohegan Sun, but it is small and I won’t be able to try the pre-sale, so getting tickets might be tough. It’s also on a Thursday night, which would make getting there and not missing a lot of work difficult. Other than that, there aren’t any obvious choices. Let’s hope there are more North American shows after the European tour is over.
May 11 in Atlantic City. That’s interesting… I’ve never been to Atlantic City, and it’s on a Saturday and it’s currently not a kid weekend. May 12th is Mother’s Day though, so we’ll probably adjust the schedule.
Again, here’s hoping for post-Europe dates.
Lets look back over the last few holidays…
Veterans Day. I worked.
Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Holiday bliss, sans work.
New Years Day. I worked.
Martin Luther King Day. I worked.
That’s three out of the last six. Today had one upside that the other two did not… A Bruins matinée. The Bruins beat the Jets in a shootout today. I got to listen to the whole thing on the radio. Hockey is finally back. Even though the stupid loser point and the douchey shootout still exist.
Go Bruins.
My sister posted a picture of herself from the 70’s on Facebook today. Of course I made fun of her.
She threatened to find a comparable picture of me so I beat her to the punch and posted this. Now I post it here too.
This must be, what, first grade? Kindergarten maybe? That would put it at maybe ’76 or ’77 or so, I think.
I kinda have the same haircut, wouldn’t you say? The part is more in the middle now, but not too different.
Maybe I’ll post a mullet pic next. I still have one or two of those laying around.
What is the definition of an idiot?
I am covering the holiday today. I am required to work in a building other than the one in which my desk is located. The cafeteria is closed, and we are not supposed to leave the building as there would be no one else to cover our calls while we are out. Therefore, we have all been asked to bring a lunch.
I got up early this morning and made myself a bag lunch. A nice deli chicken sandwich. A bag of green grapes. A handful of little mini kit-kat snack sized thingies. I put this together and then put it in the fridge while I did my normal work-day morning routine.
Then I left for work.
My bag lunch is still in the fridge.
IDIOT!
So the New England Patriots, my home town NFL team, are in the AFC Conference finals for the second year in a row. I’m pleased, but it’s football so I really am not that interested. Tonight I was sitting in the living room at game time so I figured I’d watch for a while. I watched both teams go three and out and then started flipping around the fios channel guide.
What’s this? The NHL network has the Penguins vs the Rangers from Madison Square Garden? Nice! A real game!
The Pats are up 10-7 in the second, but in a game that isn’t painfully boring to watch on television, Pittsburgh leads New York 2-1. I’m hoping to see Rick Nash score at least four goals in a loss. And if the Pats win and earn another Super Bowl appearance, I’d be cool with that too.
It’s been about nine months since last we went to California. I’m getting the travel bug once again. We should spend more time in La Jolla on the next visit. If we plan on living there after we win millions in the lottery, then we should get to know our way around, right? Right?
Hopefully our next visit to La Jolla will include sunshine. We should keep going back until the weather gets it right.
Tomorrow is Martin Luther King Day. I am supposed to have the day off. No dice. I’m working the holiday coverage. This is the non-national coverage like I did on Veteran’s day, not the hell on Earth on call like I did on New Year’s Day. I volunteered for this one so that I could pass on President’s day next month with a clear conscience. February is RPM Challenge month, and every day off counts.
But is anything going on tomorrow? Maybe in Washington or something? I hear there is quite the to-do scheduled for this location…

I would love to see an Inauguration one day, even one that is just ceremonial like this one. The Constitution requires the President to be sworn in on 1/20, so the President and Vice President took their oaths of office today. Tomorrow they will go through it again, but it is just for show. What a show it will be. I still get chills thinking of President Obama’s first Inauguration. What a day that was.
Someday we’ll go. Hopefully when we do it will be to celebrate some one we voted for.
