Snakes

Once in the past, I think it was last summer maybe, I found something unusual in the cellar. It was a little, very dead, garter snake. It was maybe a foot long, just laying there on the cold tiled floor, dead and stiff. I had to look at it for quite a while to determine that it wasn’t some toy I hadn’t noticed before. Nope, it was an honest to goodness dead snake.

Jen one upped me today.

She called me over to the cellar door. Look at the bottom of the stairs, she says. Is that a snake? Holy crap it certainly was! Another Garter Snake, but this time the sucker was huge! He was all balled up on the cold tiled floor, but I’d guess that if we straightened him out he’d be three, maybe four feet long.

I threw some things at it to try and spook it, but nothing worked. I went down to the last step and hit it with something. It moved, but not on its own. So if it was dead it was recently dead. It wasn’t stiff yet. I got a barrel and some cardboard and scooped it into the trash. I’m not sure, but at the last minute I believe it moved its head. I don’t think it was dead, just frozen by the cold tiled floor.

He’s gone now, but I am greatly displeased by this turn of events.

Birthday

It’s official. As of today my step daughter is legally allowed to ride in the front seat of the car. The last of her pre-teen years begins today. One more year before the dreaded teenage years begin.

Happy twelfth birthday to my step daughter!

Busy Weekend

We have two games at the same time today.  We have a house that needs to be cleaned from top to bottom.  We have a lawn mower that still won’t start damn it!  We have two more baseball/softball things tomorrow at roughly the same time.  We have a 12 year old’s birthday party tomorrow afternoon.

There is so much to do!!!!

Bruins Win Game One

The Bruins won game one of their second round series against the Rangers last night on an overtime goal by Brad Marchand.  Here’s the highlight video.

The game seemed pretty even to my untrained eye through three periods.  The two goals Rask let in looked a touch on the soft side.  The first one more so.  Shockingly, the first goal that Lundqvist let in was just plain bad.  If Heinrich is going to be letting soft goals in then the Bruins have a chance.  If he brings his A game each night then… well… let’s say that Bruins chances will be significantly slimmer.

In overtime the Bruins were dominant.  They had one power play where they were able to set up in the Rangers zone and blitz them with shots for nearly the full two minutes.  The Rangers had a few chances in OT, but for the most part the Bruins had them on the heels the whole time.

The game winning goal was a thing of beauty.  It was Marchand’s first goal of the post season, and it came on a perfect centering pass from Patrice Bergeron.  Bergie is your MVP kids.  Don’t ever forget that.

Game two isn’t until Sunday.  Why?

Go Bruins!
