2024 50/90 Challenge Day 29/90

Hello and welcome to August, month number two.

Not a lot of progress on day 29, but I thought I was going to get shut out. I was already thinking of how to write the “I did nothing” post. Instead, I stayed up a little late and added two new songs. They have full song forms and MIDI bass and drums. There are now 30 songs in the 50/90 pipeline. I also woke up this morning (day 30) feeling kinda sick and one of my ears is completely blocked. Oh good.

2024 50/90 Challenge Day 28/90

Remember that goofy, pointless goal I mentioned a couple of times? The one where I wanted to get 20 songs mixed and finished before the month of July ended?

Yeah, I totally did it. I mixed three songs yesterday, bringing my total finished song count up to 20. That’s two (2) RPM Challenge rules albums in 28 days. That was fun. As a cherry on top, I also added two more song ideas. That brings the total pipeline count up to 28. And there are still two full months to go!

Optimistically, that means that things look good.

Realistically, it just means that there is plenty of time for me to fall off the wagon and blow this thing.

Welcome to August, music lovers.

2024 50/90 Challenge Day 27/90

I started day 27 with six songs ready to mix. I mixed three of them. If I can mix the last three on day 28 that will be the RPM Challenge equivalent of a double album in the month of July. I have 17 songs finished right now. Three more will put me at 20. A double album would be fun, don’t you think?

17 down, 33 to go.

2024 50/90 Challenge Day 26/90

As expected, day 26 was pretty light on progress. I mixed two songs. That brings the count up to 14 songs finished. 14 down, 36 to go. 28% complete. There is still a chance that I may be able to get to 20 before the month of July ends. That would be a double album’s worth of music by RPM Challenge standards. That would be a happy thing.

2024 50/90 Challenge Day 25/90

Day 25 was pretty sweet. I worked on 8 songs in total. One got rhythm guitars, and seven got lead guitars. Two of those lead guitar songs also got mixed and moved into the finished songs bucket. The total count of finished songs is up to 12. Only 38 to go.

Day 26 (today) is a Monday… so back to work… which means less time for music. Here’s hoping I can still make a nice dent. There are three more days left in July (including today). Could I get the finished song count up to 20 before the month ends?

More Painful Fun

I went back to my guitar this afternoon. I thought my finger tips were hurting this morning. Damn, are they hurting more right now! It’s all good though. Power through the pain today and soon enough the calluses will be back and playing will be pain free once again.

I’ve put guitars onto eight songs today in total. One song got rhythm guitar tracks and the other seven got leads. Good day, me thinks.

Ouch

Guitars! I didn’t do a singing-in-the-car trip this morning because I’ve run out of songs that are ready for vocal tracks. Instead, I put rhythm guitars onto one song and leads onto four. I have three more songs ready for lead guitars. I wanted to pick those off too but my fingers were starting to hurt and I needed to take a break. If I can get back to them later then I will have run out of songs that are ready for guitar tracks as well as running out of songs ready for voice parts. Looks like it’s time to start writing some new riffs and some new lyrics. Outside of that, I have a big stack of songs ready to mix.

I’m feeling pretty good about the state of this year’s 50 songs in 90 days silliness.

2024 50/90 Challenge Day 24/90

Day 24 was a good day. I put vocals on five songs. That’s five songs that have gone past my personal bottleneck. Vocals are where things always get hung up for me.

After that I mixed two songs. That’s two songs moved to the complete bucket and posted to Alonetone.com, my personal source of truth. Nice. That brings me to a total of 10 songs finished. Only 40 left to go. We’re 20% complete, kids.
