Oh, Thank the Hockey Gods

All thanks to the hockey gods! The Bruins didn’t blow it!

They almost did. Toronto took a 1-0 lead halfway through the third period, but Boston scored to tie it almost immediately. The game went to overtime and Pastrnak scored the game winner about two minute in.

Thank you for not blowing another three games to one series lead, thank you for advancing to the second round of the playoffs, and thank you for not making us wait all night for the overtime game winner.

Bring on the Panthers… again.

Go Bruins!

Magnificent!

The concert tonight was incredible. We didn’t think we were going to see Bellana at all, but Jen ran into her on the way in and we both saw her on the way out. She was smiles from ear to ear. I am so proud of her! She’s amazing!

Now we have to turn our attention to the friggin Bruins who are scoreless after two periods. Also, TBS is celebrating Star Wars day by playing all of the movies. We’re back in the hotel room watching Return of the Jedi. The Ewoks are about to capture Chewbacca and his stomach. I have the game on in a browser. Hopefully the hotel’s shitty wifi will be up to the challenge.

It is Happening Again

How can it be? History really seems to be repeating itself.

My beloved Boston Bruins are choking again. AGAIN!

THEY ARE CHOKING AGAIN!

I only saw the first period last night and to my untrained eye they sure looked pretty lifeless, as Toronto was outshooting them at one point 11 to 1. The score at the start of the third period was 1-0 Toronto, which given what I saw seemed miraculous, and the final was 2-1 Leafs.

I can’t believe it is happening again.

Game seven is Saturday. My confidence level is squarely at zero right now.

Again… again. Ugh.

Game Six: Half an Hour Away

Game six of the first round series between the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs starts in about half an hour.

I am cautiously optimistic that we aren’t on the verge of a revisit of last year’s first round Bruins choke. My team is going to come out on top tonight. We’re one game away from a spot in the second round.

Come on, my Bruins. Put those Leafs away tonight. You can do it. I feel it in my bones.

Hockey Panic

I’ve written about this before, probably a few times, but I’m doing it again so there…

Is it like this in other regions of the world? I live near Boston, Massachusetts in the good ol’ U.S.of A. Folks in Boston take their professional sports teams seriously. Very seriously. Ridiculously seriously. We’re kinda nuts. It’s the same across all of the major sports. Red Sox fans are nuts about their baseball team. Patriots fans are nuts about their football team. Celtics fans are nuts about their basketball team. Bruins fans are nuts about their hockey team. Revolution fans… are there any Revolution fans? Is pro soccer even a thing?

When I say we’re nuts about our teams, I don’t mean that in a positive way. I mean that in a clinical, potentially dangerous, bordering on mental illness kind of way. We’re insane. Our entire well being is often tied directly to our favorite team. For example, a few days ago the Boston Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in game four of their first round, best of seven playoff series. For those of us who are out of control with the craziness kinds of Bruins fans, that win put us on top of the world. Nothing could ever go wrong. Life is good. Life is grand. Go Bruins, the sun shines upon us favorably, world without end, amen. Last night, however, the Bruins lost to the Maple Leafs in game five of the series. That resulted in a spiraling depression that can never be undone. Life is unbearable. Life is intolerable. Nothing will ever go right for us again. the world is ending and we should just put it out of its misery and get it overwith.

My question, again, is… are sports fans in other cities this freakin’ insane? Are fans in other parts of the world inclined to tie their mental health and sense of well being to their sports teams in such a way that the tiniest of victories result in unimaginable bliss and any loss results in crippling depression?

I ask because after last night’s Bruins overtime loss to the Maple Leafs, the depression is pretty crippling and life doesn’t seem terribly worth living. That could all change in an instant if the Bruins win game six tomorrow. If they lose again though… there will likely be a long parade of Bruins fans lining up on the Tobin Bridge, just preparing themselves for the possibility of a game seven loss which would lead to most of them hurling themselves off of the largest bridge in Massachusetts (the previously mentioned Tobin Bridge) to escape the pain and suffering caused by yet another Bruins choke.

Are all sports fans this insane, or is it just a greater Boston area flavor of insanity? Inquiring minds need to know. I’m guessing people all over the globe are nuts like this, but Bostonians are just a little more nuttier. We could be, at least.

Do I have to say it? Do I have to add a to this?

Game Five: Tied in the Third

Game five is about seven minutes into the third period and the score is tied at one.

This isn’t a must win for the Bruins, what with their three games to one lead in the series, but after blowing the same lead to Florida in the first round last year, it sure feels like a must win to me!

Come on, Bruins. You’ve got half a period left to put Toronto away for good.

Game Five

I turned on the Bruins game just in time to see the Leafs score and take a 1-0 lead in the first period.

MuthaPussBucket!

The pain of the collapse in games five, six, and seven in the first round against Florida last year is still very fresh in my mind.

Not again, Bruins. Pretty please?

3-0 After Two Periods

The Bruins are up 3-0 after two periods in Toronto. I’ve only managed to watch a few minutes of the game, but I saw the first goal.

It’s game four of the first round best of seven series. The Bruins lead the series two games to one. It sure would be nice to hold on to this lead and then wrap up the series at home on Tuesday.

Wait, Tuesday? Yes, there is a second two day break between games. A second consecutive two day break. Ugh.

Go Bruins!

Why Can’t They Win at Home?

The Boston Red Sox kicked off a home stand tonight at Fenway Park.

They are trailing the Cubs 5-1 in the top of the seventh inning. The odds of them winning were low even before the Cubbies took an early lead.

Why?

Because the Red Sox can’t win at home. Why can’t the Red Sox win at home? What’s going on? It’s Fenway Freakin’ Park? Hows abouts you win some games at home, Red Sox? Let’s cut the shit.

In other Boston sports news, the Bruins play the Leafs in game four of their first round series in Toronto tomorrow night. I really wish tomorrow’s game was tonight. I hate the random two day breaks during the playoffs. One day off between games is plenty. Cut the crap, NHL. I wants me my hockey games!

Okay, enough sports for this post.

Go Red Sox (puh-leeze!)

Go Bruins.

The Bruins Win Game Three

The Bruins beat the Leafs 4-2 tonight to take a two games to one lead in their best of seven first round series.

And all was right with the world.

I did not see a single second of the game as I was out all night at an after work, work thing. I missed the game and I missed my wife even more. Blah.

I’m in the office again tomorrow. It’s the third day of a three consecutive days in the office deal. Blah.

Game four of the series doesn’t happen until Saturday and that blows. Blah. I’ll have to hope that the Red Sox can tide me over during that extra day off. They beat Cleveland tonight and that is borderline miraculous. Praise be.
