Last week the other three guys in the band were all set to practice on Sunday but I had to cancel it in favor of The Great Frisbee Golf Disaster of 2019. This week I was raring to go. I even reached out to everyone during the week to make sure we were on for Sunday. We were, right up until one of the guys got called in to work.
At that point I had to give everyone the heads up that I have a conflict next week. That’s when we found out that the two guys who hadn’t caused a cancellation that day had a conflict the week after me.
The end result of all this is we are practice free for the entire month of August. The only date we have booked right now is my high school reunion in late November. That used to seem like it was a long way off, but suddenly it feels like it’s right around the corner. It’s probably still too soon for the nerves to kick in, but we’re getting close to that point.
As Yes said on the Drama album, Tempus Fugit. Right on.
I was such a good boy this morning. I got up a little early and put in a load of laundry and made myself a lunch to bring to work. Lunch at the cafeteria is pretty good and I tend to way over do it. Brown bagging keeps me in line. Brown bagging helps me stay on program for Weight Watchers (or WW or whatever we’re supposed to call it now). Brown bagging is smart. Folks in greater Boston might even say that brown bagging is wicked smaht. I agree.
I got to work, put my lunch in the fridge, sat down at my desk, signed onto the network, and the building lost power. Son of a… and the power came back. Okay. Not so bad. Fast forward a little more than an hour. We’re all getting ready to head into a conference room for our daily 10:00 check in meeting and the power goes out again. This time it stayed out. After about five minutes some of the higher ups and some of the in-the-knows come around and tell us that word on the street is the power is going to be out for a while. We speculated that someone on a road construction crew (they seem to be everywhere in Waltham) zigged when he shoulda zagged and boom, power outage.
The official word for times like these is to go find a desk in another building. For some of my group they are actually closer to home than to another one of our locations, so they can telecommute for the rest of the day. I am not so lucky so I jump in the car and head South to the nearest building.
That’s when I remember that I left my brown bag lunch in the fridge.
Son of a…
Well, at least the cafe in my alternate building is good too.
Happy Monday, everyone.
Last night I did it again. I took off the CPAP mask and then fell asleep before I put it back on. Three nights in a row. It’s starting to get annoying.
Yesterday I helped my father in law with a project. Ol’ fat and out of shape Robbie did actual labor. Yikes. When I was finished I was feeling okay, but by the time I got home I had stiffened up and every inch of me hurt. I was ready for bed by 7:00 but sleep just didn’t happen until after 11:00. Then this morning I woke up at 5:00 and just couldn’t fall back to sleep. So much for wearing myself out.
That weird pain I was having in my arm is still there, though not even remotely as bad as it was on Friday. Now it’s just my legs and my back and my arms and my hands and literally every single bit of me that hurts.
Changing the subject… band practice tonight. I need to learn how to play again by 6:00.
Yesterday I said that I took off my CPAP mask and fell asleep before I put it back on. I also said I need to stop doing that. Last night I did it again… twice. Urgh.
Apparently I also, while sound asleep, whacked my beloved wife Jennifer in the head. What a jerk I am. Last week it was the frisbee incident, and this week it was sleep decking. I’m sorry sweetie. I didn’t mean it. I was asleep. Also, I am a jerk.
I don’t know what I did, but it hurts.
Monday morning I woke up with a lot of pain in the upper part my left arm. I don’t know what I did to earn it. I don’t sleep on my left side, so it wasn’t that. I haven’t a clue. It hurts when I move my arm away from my body, or when I try and reach backward. It hasn’t gotten better over the week. In fact, I think it’s worse. I’ve been favoring it this whole time and now my neck hurts too. Yippee.
My sleep wasn’t very good last night. I woke up a few times and then had some trouble falling back to sleep. The numbers on the sleep tracking app were all screwy. It said I was awake for over an hour after 3:00am. I most definitely was not awake during that time. The pain in my arm was a little bit of the problem, but not much. If I moved funny it would hurt, but mostly it was just a dull ache that didn’t keep me awake. I did have issues with the CPAP mask though. At one point I felt a leak at the base of the mask, under my mouth. At another point I could feel air escaping out of the side. I was able to fix it both times, and the CPAP tracking app didn’t register any bad leaks. I’m thinking that some nights I spring leaks like that without waking up. That could explain the numbers. I also, for the second night in a row, took off my mask for whatever reason and then fell asleep before I could put it back on. My wife didn’t wake up either time, so snoring must have been kept at a minimum. I need to figure out a way to stop that from happening.
The kids have been visiting their father’s step mother in Pennsylvania this week. They are flying home today. They are literally in the air as I type this. I am watching the plane’s progress on a flight tracking site. They took off about four minutes early, followed the flight plan for about 10 minutes, and then turned around. Turned around? Then after a few minutes they turned around again. Once they retraced their route they were back on their flight plan and have been on it ever since. They are scheduled to land in about 40 minutes, 24 minutes late due to their big giant circle. It’s like the pilot was showing off and did a big mid-air donut. Dooode, sick move brah.
As of this moment there will be a band practice on Sunday.
There will be rocking.
There will be rolling.
There were like four other things I was going to mention but I forget what I wanted to say. Don’t get old, kids. The memory is the first thing to go.
