I’m Not Ready

I am not ready for xmas to take over all aspects of our daily American lives. Every year I go through this. It takes me until maybe December 21st or 22nd before I start feeling the holiday spirit. Up until then it’s bordering on loathing. We as a culture over do it so much that it’s painful to me. I just want a normal December and then a few days of holiday excitement and then New Years and then it’s over again. Why is that too much to ask? Why did I have to hear awful, awful xmas music blaring at me at the grocery store on Sunday November 26th at 8:10am? It’s just gross.

I would like to go back to Disney World though, so here’s some xmas decorations from Magic Kingdom. Granted these were taken a couple of weeks after New Years last January which is equally as gross as xmas music in November but… whatever.

  1. We host a holiday party for our business on the 2nd and for our family on the 9th. The business one is catered and my husband takes care of the food for the family. So why do I always feel so overwhelmed?!
It has become a time of year to “get through”.

  2. I’m right there with you. As a kid, I used to love Christmas. As an adult, I’ve realized what an incredibly stressful time of year it is.

I remember growing up in Detroit that one of the local radio stations would start playing Christmas carols on Christmas Eve. They would continue for 24 hours, commercial free.

Today that same radio station started Christmas music on November 1. They do it 24 seven. Then it will stop abruptly on December 26.

I understand that retailers do 40% of their business for the entire year between the four weeks from Thanksgiving to Christmas Christmas. So them wanting to show the holiday down our throat makes sense.

But it’s just too much. Constantly.
