Ive started my tour prep. I made a playlist featuring one Rush concert from each major tour. When Rush comes to Boston in June I will be ready.
Yeah, you wish you were as mighty a nerd as I.

I had two atrocious commutes today. Two of them. I’m watching the Lightning and the Canadians game six. If Tampa Bay loses I’m going to be pissed. Even worse, the Red Sox are out west so game time is 10:05. Grrrrrr
Here’s a picture from December 2011 when the band that would years later become the band I’m playing in now was practicing at my house.
Yes I am a nut job of a Boston sports fan. That’s a given. Regardless, allow me to take a second to address my New England neighbors who are obsessed with the Patriots.
He cheated. Just deal with it. Don’t try to deflect blame. Don’t make the silly arguments that the evidence is circumstantial. Don’t say it’s all the league’s fault or that the NFL is out to get the Patriots. Don’t.
Tom Brady is a cheater. Just accept it. You can still be a fan. You can still enjoy your four super bowls. Just don’t defend him. Call him what he is: A cheater. Then when he comes back after his huge suspension you can put it all behind you and move on with your fandom life.
The time has officially come. The grass needs to be mowed.
I had to literally dig the lawn mower out of the garage. All of the supplies for the bathroom remodeling job are in the garage now. We had planned to have it finished by the New Year. Whoops. That means all of the Spring time stuff is buried.
I was able to dig a path and get the mower out onto the drive way. Win #1. Then it started on the third pull. Win #2. Then I started mowing. 52 minutes later (approximately) the whole front and back yards were done. The whole thing. In less than an hour. I haven’t achieved a feat like that since I was a teenager. Where the hell did that come from?
Now my beloved wife and I are sitting in the living room. Every window and door on the first floor is currently open and the gorgeous spring breeze is blowing through the whole house. It’s perfect. I’m actually thinking of taking my guitar outside and working on some new song ideas. After the winter we just went though I want to spend as much time outside as I can!
I managed to hold out for two days. That’s how long I was able to wait before downloading bootlegs of Friday night’s Rush show. I have tapes from two sources. Yeah. They haven’t even had a second show yet and already I have two bootlegs. I think I need therapy.
I have not listened to them yet, and I won’t until after I see the show for myself. I have also managed to not look at the setlist, even though the dimeadozen torrent pages have both listed the whole thing.
I’m not spoiler free though. I’ve heard a couple of song titles from Facebook friends who were there on Friday. I’ve also seen a number of pictures. There’s a guy on Flickr who uploaded some great shots with the tag R40Live. Check them out. They sort of spoiled one or two things for me. You see… there are photos that include two… not one, but two… double neck guitars. Knowing your Rush history narrows that down to at most two songs. One of them I’m sure had two double necks (a 6/12 for Alex and a bass/12 for Geddy), the other had at least one. I’ve seen Alex play his double neck before, but I’ve never seen Geddy play one in person.
Epic, dude. Totally, wicked Epic.
Post script… Now that I think of it, there is one song that I believe Geddy played his double neck but Alex did not play his. On one of the live records, during a guitar solo, there is a moment where you hear rhythm guitar but no bass. That’s the give away that Geddy is playing his Rick double neck. Again, I’ve never seen evidence of this, but I’ve heard it. That’s a third double neck song, but I’m still only sure of one where they both play theirs. Just one. I won’t say which song but I will say if you pop on the Exit… Stage Left video you’ll know what I’m talking about.
