Rough Day

Today has been a tough day. I had a hard time getting to sleep last night. I was up until about midnight and then I was out of bed before 5:30am today. I was extremely productive this morning, but round about lunch time the lack of sleep caught up to me and I’ve been struggling ever since.

I think today is my last day working in the cellar. At least for a few weeks. I should be back in my step son’s room tomorrow. that’s good because it is ridiculously cold down here right now. It’s 85 degrees outside, but 66 degrees at my desk and I am freezing. We are supposed to be having a heat wave roll in starting tomorrow (I think). That’s fine with me. I probably won’t wear a sweatshirt if it is 100 degrees out. Maybe. We’ll see how it goes.

I had some trouble with lunch. I made a little piece of chicken and some french fries. I think I went too fast eating the fries and something got stuck. It took about an hour to clear. That made me sad on top of being tired. The fries were really good and I had to stop. Bummer, dude.

I need to take the cameras out and shoot some photos. I can’t seem to dredge up any motivation though. I need to play guitar. I can’t seem to dredge up any motivation though. Bummer, dude.

Weather or Not

I made a pun in the title of this post. Did you like it? It takes the phrase “whether or not” and replaces whether with it’s homonym, weather because the post is going to be about the weather. Get it? I feel so friggin’ clever I could spontaneously combust*!

We’re supposed to get a nor’easter this week. The forecast yesterday said 3-6 inches of snow on Wednesday into Thursday. I just checked the accuweather website and it’s still calling for some snow on Wednesday but no real accumulation. Then Thursday into Friday we’re still looking at 3-6 inches.

I am taking my father to a doctors appointment on Wednesday and I am working in the office on Thursday. Wednesday is looking good but Thursday might be in trouble. We’ll have to see.

The long range forecast includes something I am looking forward to. When the temperature outside hits 60 degrees I like to open the windows. If the forecast is correct, next week I’ll be opening the windows. It stands as more evidence that I am now officially a really old fart, but stuff like that pleases me immensely. Come on, weather. Let’s let me open the windows. Just stop snowing first, m’kay?

*That’s sarcasm. I am not clever at all. Not even a little bit.

Mother Nature’s Revenge

If you live in New England like I do, you may want to not look at the weather forecast.

Wendesday… snow.

Thursday… snow.

We’re going to get a Nor’easter… in April.

Damn it, Mother Nature. Why must you be such an insufferable asshole? Really. What a jerk!

It’s still a couple of days away at least, so maybe the forecast will change or turn out to be completely wrong. Maybe we won’t get snow after all. I’m not betting on it. If winter is going to give spring one last kick in the nards, it’ll be like this.

Good thing I didn’t already plant my peanuts!*

*I haven’t written a post about it for months, but I am still planning on trying to grow some peanuts this year. I am an idiot and this is the proof.

Notes

Sunrise at Salisbury Beach tomorrow is at 6:14 AM.

The temperature around sunrise will be 29-30 degrees. Brrr.

The sky is forecast to be mostly clear.

Are those conditions good enough to go take some sunrise pictures? The time and the sky look good. 29-30 degrees is a little off putting, but if I wear a warm jacket and take gloves with me… it’s doable.

I remain undecided though. We’ll see.

If I go I will take my Z5 and the 40mm lens, and Dad’s K1000 with the 50mm lens. I would bring a second roll of film in case I get into it and crank out the last 20 shots in the current roll and still want to shoot more. The current roll is color (Fuji Superia 400 at box speed) and a potential second roll would be black and white (Kentmere 100? Or should I try a roll of 400 instead?).

In the immortal words of Commander Data in The Best of Both Worlds Part II, “processing… processing…”.

Forecast

We’ve had a string of scorchers around here. I’ve mentally blocked out some of it. Has it been four straight days above 90 degrees, or was it five? I’ve been thinking about weather tonight. Specifically Friday’s weather.

Yeah I know, it’s too soon to start thinking about the forecast for Friday. It’s the day after tomorrow, but it may as well be 10 years away. Harry’s graduation is Friday evening and it’s going to be outside on the football field.

The good news is that the forecast for the next couple of days won’t come anywhere near the 90’s. The bad news is the high for Friday in Windham is 68 and the low is 56. Yikes!

Two years ago, when Bellana graduated, it was oppressively hot at the start of the ceremony and frosty cold at the end. I had a suit jacket that day but ended up giving it to someone who was a lot colder than I was. It didn’t take long for me to regret the chivalry. I was freezing my ass off.

This time, I’m bringing a real coat with me. I don’t care if I have to carry it around all day. If we’re still on that field when the sun gets low it’s going to feel like the north freakin’ pole.

The boy scout motto is “be prepared.” The cliche quote* is if you don’t like the weather in New England, wait a minute. I will take both of those to heart on Friday. I am going to love the whole experience so much that I ain’t letting a little frigid air stop me.

The Bruins are getting smoked. 6-2, though two of those Islander goals were empty nets. I can’t believe I have to say this, but here’s hoping Tampa Bay kicks the living shit out of New York in the third round.

*I’ve always heard that quote attributed to Mark Twain. Is that true? Did he actually say that? Is that a true story or just some silly myth. I have no idea. If you live in New England you know it’s a really accurate statement though. We live it every day. I’ve lived in New England for 50 years and for pretty much all of those years I did not have any interest in living anywhere else. Today? Today I am thinking that maybe it’s time.

The Bruins have been eliminated from the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Crap.
