RPM Challenge – Day Ten

It’s February 10th.  What’s the RPM status?  Well, it’s not bad.  I’m up to 11 songs in progress.  Three more and I’ll have enough for both RPM and FAWM.  Five of the songs have rhythm guitars finished.  One even has the vocals finished.  Two of the songs are in 6/8 time.  One is in 5/4.  One is in 7/8.  the rest are in boring old 4/4.  I don’t know if the quality is anything to write home about this year.  I feel like I’m doing the same things over and over again.

I wanted to get some work done before work this morning, but The Walking Dead came back last night and I had to watch it before I did anything.  It’s funny.  I’ve read two issues of the comic.  One was the first issue.  The other was more or less last night’s episode.  I have to say that, unlike many fans of the show, I don’t want Carl to get hurt.  Carl getting in zed trouble scares me more than any other character, by far.  I don’t know why.

Anyway, I did sneak in a tiny amount of work this morning.  I came up with a chorus for song #3 and got it into GarageBand in two part harmony.  I have been having more trouble with finding vocal harmonies than ever before.  I need to start listening to The Beatles and Dada (my go to bands for practicing picking out harmony parts) to get my ears back into shape.

Read a Calendar, You Dope

Yesterday morning after cranking out a couple of guitar parts I turned on the tube and opened up apple TV and went to purchases and went to The Walking Dead and found no new episode*.  Crap, thought I.  It’s not available yet.  I hadn’t watched the mid-season trailer (remember when we didn’t need idiot things like mid season trailers because seasons were 26 episodes over 26 weeks?) so I opened it up.

The Walking Dead didn’t come back on February 2nd, it comes back on February 9th.

I am such a dope.

*I am trying to create a new form of literary art centered on the run on sentence.  How am I doing?

Crazy

This has been the craziest busy day ever. Everyone seems to be cramming a full weeks worth of crazy into one day.

I started mixing another song last night but decided I would be better served by sleeping. Good thinking on my part.

So The Walking Dead… I knew they were working on a spin off, but I thought it would be all new characters somewhere else in the world. I didn’t think it would be just about The Governor, and I didn’t think it was replacing the original show. Did the main cast need a vacation or something? Two weeks in a row of side story. I’m ready for the main story arc to come back now. Hell, I was ready seven days ago. That being said, the crazier that character gets the more fun he is.. and he’s getting pretty crazy again.

The Bruins play the Penguins tonight in a happy playoff rematch. Remember how the Penguins were heavily favored and then got swept by the Bruins? Remember that? Do you think his Bruins teammates let Jarome Iginla forget that for even a second? Tonight is a match up between the two top teams in the East. I probably won’t watch much, but I might catch some on the radio. There are just so many things going on right now.

I had planned to finish up the last two or three songs worth of guitar parts today but I watched zombie television instead. The whole project this month is completely disorganized. I don’t even know how many songs are left to finish. After the big chunk of work I did on Friday, I expect it to get finished on time. I just don’t feel very good about the whole thing. My guitar playing has been so bad it’s painful. It’s painful to listen to, and it’s painful to play. My finger tips are still burning from Friday. My playing has been bad enough to take a lot of the fun out of this. If I don’t keep practicing between now and February I might not do RPM. I mean, I know I suck but at least when I’m at my best I can fool myself into thinking I don’t suck too bad. I can’t do that right now.

Surround Sound Spooky

I watched the first three seasons of Th Walking Dead on my iPad with headphones on. In the last few weeks I’ve started watching Sunday night’s episodes on Monday morning before logging into work to telecommute. I’ve learned something about the show.

There was a major creepiness factor that I was missing out on. Surround Sound.

I’m sitting in the living room all alone, watching the tube, and I keep hearing noises coming from all around me. Creepy, bump in the night kinda noises. It’s the damn TV show! As if grossing me out and scaring the living daylights out of me isn’t enough, now it’s got to throw in these little touches!

What a great show!

Reminder

I want to take a minute to remind everyone of something important.

I don’t watch The Walking Dead when it airs. I have the season pass from iTunes. That means that I generally don’t watch new episodes until the next day. Because of that, I want to ask all of my loyal readers to do me the courtesy of NOT SPOILING IT FOR ME!!!

Pretty please.

Thank you,
The Management

Spoilers Avoided

Okay everyone.  As of last night at about 10:30 or so I have finished watching the season 3 finale of The Walking Dead.  You are all now clear to start talking about it around me.  There is no longer a need for me to protect myself from spoilers.  You may now carry on as normal.

It’s amazing.  I mean I never saw it coming.  Who would have thought that the Governor is actually Rick’s father?

A Dangerous Place

I am in a dangerous place today. I never watch The Walking Dead on broadcast TV. No one else in my house watches it, and I don’t want to cause nightmares for anyone. Therefore I bought the season pass from iTunes. After each episode airs, I can download it and watch it. I generally watch it on my iPad the evening after it airs, just after my beloved wife has gone to sleep.

That leaves me in danger of the dreaded spoiler. Facebook and work are the two places I must be most careful. A quick perusal of the Facebook has not caused any problems yet, but I did notice Wil Wheaton said something about Carl being right, but Carl is always right, isn’t he? A Facebook friend also posted that he was not pleased with the finale. If that’s all the spoiling I get then I will be pleased. Lets hope that no one blows it for me.

But even if someone does blow it for me, I’m still going to watch it tonight. In fact, it’s downloading onto my iPad at this very moment.
