Scale and Sleep and Stuff

There were a number of reasons why I wanted to change what I eat. The main reason being that I felt like garbage all the time due to having to carry around my gigantic stomach. The other reasons included things like clothes not fitting right anymore, spending way too much money on junk food, fearing that when I sit in a chair it will be crushed beneath me. You know, the little things.

Another of those reasons was due to the digital scale in our bathroom no longer being able to read my weight. When I stepped on it the display would say ERR. In other words, you’re too fat for the scale you fat ass. I’m happy to say that after two weeks of no coca~cola, smaller lunches, no junk food breakfasts, and less snacking between meals, the scale gave me an actual number today. Granted it was an absurdly huge number, but a number. I feel happy about that little detail. Granted, hippopotamuses often feel happy too. I’m still a monstrous fat ass, but I’m enjoying my tiny little victory.

On a less successful note, another reason for changing my intake was that I had trouble sleeping through the night. Eliminating coca~cola from my diet would remove the vast majority of my caffeine intake. If I can cut back on chocolate too (so far so, sort of good) I could stop having caffeine all together. Well I haven’t had any caffeinated soda of any kind in over two weeks now, but I’m not seeing a lot of improvement in my sleeping. A little, maybe, but not that much. I still wake up 1-2 times a night for no apparent reason, and I never feel all that rested in the morning. I probably do feel better than I did a couple of weeks ago, but there has not been any major change. I wonder how long it takes caffeine to purge from your system? I wonder if my massive caffeine intake over the years would skew things so that it takes longer to purge. I wonder.

On the upside of things, the cold that cleaned my clock last week is about 95% gone. Jen is feeling better too, although it hit her much harder than it hit me (and it kicked my ass) and she still has a way to go before she’s all better.

On a non-health note, I put some new strings on one of my guitars yesterday during telecommute lunch and I did a little recording. Then immediately after work I did a little more recording. Then this morning before work I did a little more recording. New/old song in a couple of days? Seems likely. Maybe if I keep up the pre morning commute schedule there might be two new/old songs soon.

In the meantime though, Robert says no to caffeinated beverages. The goal is to have a decent beach body by 2033 (kidding). At this rate, anything is possible.

Camp Day

Today is the day the kids go back to camp. Jenny is still ridiculously sick with the cold from hell. I am still a little sniffly, so hopefully the end of the illness for her is imminent. Fingers crossed.

I have a two hour drive to get them to the camp site and I have to do it without my favorite navigator. I’m going to miss her on the drive, and then I am going to miss the kids like crazy while they are at camp.

I hate camp. I hate that they go away for a long time. I miss them when they are at their fathers, never mind when they are away from all of us for an extended period of time. Boo.

They are going to have an absolute blast, but Jenny and I are going to be sad the whole time.

Once Again I Prove That I Cannot Read

I said here yesterday that Flickr was going down for like six hours for maintenance. It wasn’t yesterday, it’s today. Why can’t I read a full sentence anymore? I could blame it on being sick. I still feel sick, but not nearly as bad as before. I’m probably up to 70% well now. My poor sweetheart though, she’s got the bug in a bad way. She got out of bed, but I expect her to be back again shortly. In the meantime, we will be keeping the Kleenex corporation in business. Achoo and all that jazz.

Better… Sort of… Almost

I almost feel a little better today. Sort of. I’m still really congested but it’s not as bad as it was. I can almost (not quite) breath through my nose today. The coughing and sneezing are not entirely gone, but they have been reduced. I have a little more energy today, although not much. I’m still feeling run down. So I’m almost feeling a little better. Kind of.

Want to hear a little crazy talk? It’s been 10 days since I’ve had a sip of coca~cola. Coca~cola is my nemesis. I love it so. Oh, how I love that caramel colored, carbonated, caffeinated goodness. Sweet nectar of life, I love it so. But it is probably the #1 cause of my skyrocketing out of control weight. Every once in a while I try to cut it out of my diet. 10 days is a good start. I have also managed to completely avoid caffeine during that time too. I have not eliminated soda. I’ve been getting a Canada Dry Ginger Ale at lunch on the days I am in the office. There’s one sitting next to me right now. Other than that it has been water, water with flavoring, gatorade, or other fruit type juices. I did not weigh myself before jumping on the wagon, so I don’t know if I’ve lost any weight. I do know that I’ve managed to sleep better in the last couple of nights. I’ll take that as a plus. I have also been trying to avoid the cafeteria at lunch time. I’ve brown bagged it each day that I’ve been in the office, and avoided going out of pigging out like a madman when working at home. The gym has been tougher. I’ve only gone twice in the 10 days. Being sick got in the way a couple of times, but it’s still not a regular thing yet. I might try again tomorrow.

On a totally unrelated note, Flickr is shutting down for maintenance tonight from 4:00-10:00pm Pacific time. That means no uploading anything tonight. Not that I have anything to upload. I will now post one picture as an experiment to see if the site going down includes losing access to everything. You’re fascinated, I can tell.

How about a picture of a Union Jack, taken at Colonial Williamsburg? You know, in honor of the royal baby and all. Yeah, that.

What else is there. Oh, hockey. The NHL finally announced next season’s schedule. No word yet on how they plan to force the cancellation of half of it, the way they did last year. The league has been realigned. The Bruins are now in the Atlantic Division. No teams from the old Atlantic are in the new Atlantic. Most of those teams are in the… wait for it… Metropolitan Division.

Oh please, that’s the best you could do? Why not the Teams Sort of Closest to New York Division? Why not the Middle East Division. Cause… these are teams that are in the East, but south of New England and North of Florida, so they are kind of in the Middle of the East, therefore Middle East. Get it? Even that is better than Metropolitan Division.

Well, lunch break is ending. Time to pop some DayQuil and try and figure out some bugs. Happy Wednesday.

Is There Anything More Pathetic?

I ask you this…

Is there anything more pathetic than calling in sick on a day you are supposed to telecommute?

No really, is there? Because I just did it. Today is a telecommute day and I just called in sick.

What a waste of both a sick day and a telecommute day. Urgh.

Figures

Massachusetts is firmly entrenched in a heat wave. Temps are in the upper 90’s Fahrenheit, supermarkets are running out of bottled water, folks are getting nostalgic for blizzards…

And Jen and I are both catching a cold.

Irony sucks in a big way.

Nothing Going On

There is nothing going on at all.  Work during the day, spend the evenings with my love, go to sleep, wake up and do it all again.  I’m coughing a little more than normal over the last couple of days, but this time I can feel something getting loosened up.  Hopefully I’m a few coughs away from having a clear throat and a clear head and not being sick at all.  I would guess I’m about 85% healthy.  Last time I said that I relapsed, so I might just be a moron.  Who knows.

Over the weekend we finished watching The Lord of the Rings with the kids.  They were really into it, mostly.  Sheelob the spider weirded them both out, but that’s sort of her job.  I have been listening to the audiobook of the Lord of the Rings during my commutes.  Frodo and Sam are in Mordor >insert creepy music here<.

So on that note I will leave you with the one (wedding) ring!

The photojojo macro lens is kinda cool, but I haven’t really gotten anything terribly clear with it yet. I’ll keep trying.
