Be Careful Out On Those Internets, Kids

I am not going to share any details because a: it’s not my info to share and, b: it’s none of your damn business.

Having said that, be careful out in the wilderness that is the internets, kiddos. It’s dangerous out there. You click the wrong link and someone scoops up your login credentials and BOOM, you’re private info is public. Worse, it happens at work and your company’s private info is public. Worse, worse, it happens to your customer and your customer’s private info is public and then you have to dive in and try to clean up the mess.

No one I know or work with was involved in such a thing, but the clean up when it happens to other people around you can be super stressful.

So be careful out there. You don’t want to go through any of this crap, and you don’t want to accidentally put your friendly neighborhood support staff through it in your place either. Yikes, bro.

Someone just tried to change the password to my BestBuy account. Nope. Not today.

Unless they want to buy me cool camera gear. Like a 50mm prime lens for my D90, or even a 35mm prime lens for my D90. I don’t think The BestBuy sells a fully manual 50mm prime lens for my FG-20. If they do, then I’ll take one of those too.

I guess I have to change my password now that someone has tried to change my password. Oh, internet.

Detailed Spam

I have received a bunch of spam text messages today. They’ve been pretty good. One in particular was very good. Almost good enough for me to consider thinking about maybe possibly considering to think about responding. If I did respond it would have been with something along the lines of, “who the fuck are you?” but it wasn’t actually good enough to get me to respond. It was close, but not that close.

It seemed to be coming from something that may have been a property management person or company or whatever, and it asked me if I needed help managing the property at my parents address. Except it didn’t say “parents address.” It gave their address. Just the street, not the town. It had to have dug that up somewhere. I can’t quite figure out where.

The phishing attacks are definitely getting better and better with time, but this one was much more detailed than I’m used to seeing. It was pretty annoying.

Don’t fall for the spam, folks. In the immortal words of Mad Eye Moody, constant vigilance!

I Suck at Security

I totally just fell for a phishing scheme. Soneofabitch.

A friend I haven’t spoken to in a while sent me a youtube link on Facebook Messenger. I clicked it. It asked me to sign into Facebook. I’ve had a rough day and I wasn’t paying attention to what was going on and I signed in.

Idiot.

My password has been changed, and that was a pain too as I tried to use my password manager plugin to generate a super password and it failed… twice.

It’s all set now but……..

Dumbass.

Clever Phisher

I saw a pretty clever phishing scam today. It went a little something like this…

I got a text saying that the USPS had to reschedule a delivery that was supposed to happen tomorrow. I’m not waiting for anything right now so I clicked the link in the text to get more info. Hint: that was a mistake.

The page the link took me to was not a post office page as my quick glance had implied. Instead it was an Amazon page. At least it looked like an Amazon page. It was asking me to login. As it turns out, I have a lot of experience trying to view my order history while not being logged in, and it wasn’t the page I’m used to seeing.

Pretty sure if I had logged in they would have had my user name and password. In the immortal words of the game keeper from Jurassic Park, clever girl.

Next time I need to be more careful before clicking the link in the text. As it is they’ve likely marked me as a sucker and will target me again.

It’s a holiday in Massachusetts today so there is no traffic anywhere. I am so ridiculously early that I stopped at rest area on 128 to get a bite for breakfast.

I’m one exit North of the Boston Marathon route. There is a convoy of state police cars here. I can see 11 from this spot, but I think there are more.

Do not eff with my city today. These guys will break you into tiny pieces if you mess with us.
