Clockwork Angels the Audiobook

On my drive home today I started listening to the Clockwork Angels audiobook. It was read by Neil Peart. I’m still only at the beginning, but my first impression is that when it comes to audiobooks, Neil is a great drummer. No offense.

The other thing you learn very quickly is that Mr Peart is aboooot as Canadian as you can get. The first line: “It seems like a lifetime agoooo.”

You just have to love it.

Busy

I’m already tired.

It has begun.  That time of year when we go from being busy to being off the wall crazy busy.  Instead of just having to get the kids to and from piano and karate, we now have to get them to and from piano, karate, baseball, and softball, and unlike piano and karate they do not play baseball and softball together.  Tomorrow, they both have a game starting 30 minutes apart.  Monday, they both have games starting at the same time.  It’s madness!  It’s also fun.  Expect many updates on the status of baseball and softball games.  Who’s winning, who’s playing which positions in the field, who’s getting hits.  All that fun stuff.

Still, I’m tired.  I think allergies might be involved.  My step son is missing his second consecutive day of school with a fever.  Obviously that’s not allergy related, but I wonder if maybe he has a little allergy action adding to the misery.  We’re all tired and stuffy.  If that’s the price one pays for not freezing their ass off when they go out of the house, then it’s worth it.  I just wish I could breath and sleep a little better.

Let’s not forget that we’re less than a week away from more of this:

Even though we are only a week removed from this:

The Bruins play game two of their first round series with the Leafs tomorrow.  They spanked the Leafs hard in game one.  Let us hope that continues.

The Red Sox… kinda rule.  Who knew that all they needed to do to erase the horror of last season was trade their most expensive players and fire  schmucko the clown.  They have the most wins and the highest winning percentage in all of the majors.  Please please please please please let this not be a fluke.  Last year was so painful, I can’t take a collapse this year.  I just can’t.  World Series of Bust, babie!  (says the guy who was hoping for nothing more than a .500 season)

Almost Time Again

It’s almost time again. Time for another Rush concert. We missed the last one, and left the one before that early. Hopefully nothing will stand in the way of us seeing the full show this time. It’s all the way in Connecticut, so hopefully we’ll be free of distractions being so far from home.

Expect the level of Robbie’s excitement to build steadily over the coming week.

Geddy Lee Interview

This is a nice radio in-studio interview with Geddy Lee.  He talks about how being more popular than ever is gratifying.  He also says his son has a PHD in Higher Ed!  Doctor Lee!

Of course WordPress.com in it’s infinite wisdom will not let me embed the video, like every other blogging platform in the universe does. Click the link, kids.

Yeah, so I’ve probably posted all of these before. So what. I’m freakin’ giddy right now. If you don’t like it, go screw.

Just over three months to go!

Success!

Ticketmaster is a bitch.

I logged in ahead of time so that I would be all ready for the 10:00 start.  I also entered my credit card onto my account so that I wouldn’t have to enter it later.

When my clock struck 10:00 I refreshed the event page and discovered that ticketmaster’s clock is behind mine.  Figures.  I refreshed again and got into the sale.  The first thing it did was a friggin’ captcha.  I hate those things.  There has to be a way for the system to know I am a human, rather than me having to prove it.  Get on that, would you please ticketmaster?  Each new page had a timer on it.  The captcha page’s was two minutes.  Stressful, eh?

Finally I get to a page that actually offers me tickets.  Of course they are nose bleeds, right?  I know there were presales galor, and I know it’s a casino so the high rollers will get the very front, but I am as far away as you can get.  Does ticketmaster start selling from the back these days?

I chose to buy the tickets and it asks me to sign in.  Didn’t I just sign in?  I even reset my password so I wouldn’t have to struggle with it.  I entered my newly reset password and of course it failed.  Blow me.  I enter it again, it failed again.  I enter the old password and it fails as well.  I click to create an account and go through 20 steps only to be told that my account already exists and I get prompted for the password again.  I chose to reset the password and finally get in.  All of that happened while the 5 minute timer was ticking down.

Now I am signed in and I have my tickets selected and what does it do?  Asks me to reenter my credit card for verification.  Are you kidding me?  I entered my credit card literally minutes before, now I have to enter it again.  Assholes.  Okay, so now I have my credit card reentered.  What next?  I click the button to complete the transaction.  Finally.  It asks me what credit card I want to use.  Are you kidding?  I only have one in the account and I have entered it twice already, now I have to select it from a drop down.  Okay, okay.

Now I am at the screen that shows me my purchase and gives me one more chance to back out.  I am about to click purchase when I notice a little tiny field, buried in a mess of related sales offers (no I don’t want a t-shirt or anything else you are bundling with my precious Rush tickets) that asks for the little security number on the back of the credit card.  Really?  Why the hell isn’t that field filled when you enter the effing card, and why the hell isn’t it right at the top of the page with all of the actually important information?  Well, bullet dodged, thinks I, and I fill in the field and click purchase.

Next ticketmaster tells me they have to verify my card with my bank and that they will be taking me off of ticketmaster.com and sending me to my bank’s site.  What the hell is this?  Fortunately the processes was automated and all I had to do was watch my screen redirect five or six times.  All while the clock is ticking.

Finally… Finally, I get to the screen telling me that my transaction is complete and that Jen, the love of my life, and I will get to see my all time favorite band again.

That was way too much work.  Was it better than standing in line outside of a strawberries or tower records or newbury comics?  Maybe, but I bet I would have gotten much better seats if I had stood in line.

Aw, who cares.  We’re going to see Rush!

Rush Spring Tour Dates

Rush is going to be touring in North America again this Spring.  They released a set of dates this morning (or was it last night?) just prior to their European tour.

April 23 Austin, TX @ Frank Erwin Center
April 26 Ft. Lauderdale, FL @ BB&T Center
April 28 Orlando, FL @ Amway Center
May 1 Nashville, TN @ Bridgestone Arena
May 3 Raleigh, NC @ PNC Arena
May 5 Virginia Beach, VA @ Farm Bureau Live At Virginia Beach
May 7 Baltimore, MD @ 1st Mariner Arena
May 9 Uncasville, CT @ Mohegan Sun
May 11 Atlantic City @ Etess Arena

Pre-sales start today.  I’ve been to a couple of shows at Mohegan Sun, but it is small and I won’t be able to try the pre-sale, so getting tickets might be tough.  It’s also on a Thursday night, which would make getting there and not missing a lot of work difficult.  Other than that, there aren’t any obvious choices.  Let’s hope there are more North American shows after the European tour is over.

May 11 in Atlantic City.  That’s interesting… I’ve never been to Atlantic City, and it’s on a Saturday and it’s currently not a kid weekend.  May 12th is Mother’s Day though, so we’ll probably adjust the schedule.

Again, here’s hoping for post-Europe dates.
