Mouse Hunt 2023

Remember last week when I wrote all of those posts about the cats hunting mice? Remember how I saw a mouse in the cellar and said the cats weren’t allowed in the cellar, thus implying that it was up to me to take them out with extreme prejudice?

We are a household with two expert mousers. I was hoping to join their ranks and make it three. I put out a bunch of traps but I failed to catch anything. Worse, rather than just ignoring the traps, when I checked them yesterday the bait had been picked clean. The cellar mouse was just messing with me.

That changed this morning. I checked the traps a few minutes ago. I guess the bait wasn’t quite gone on the trap I put between the two desks.

Maniacal laugh.

I guess we are a three mouser house after all.

Rodent of the Day

I was waiting for my lunch to heat up in the microwave and I happened to look outside and see our groundhog friend.

I don’t know anything about groundhogs but I do know that this little sucker is adorable.

As cute has he is, he’s isn’t even close to as cute as Lady Pachalotte of the Rhode Island Patchalottes.

The New Rodent

At last, I have a picture of the new rodent living in our back yard. I’m not sure what kind of rodent it is. I thought either a groundhog or a gopher. I put two pictures on Flickr a few minutes ago and so far we have one vote for groundhog. Does the WordPress.com community agree?

What is this? Is it a gopher?

What is this? Is it a gopher?

So what do you think this little critter is?

Yeah, that’s a skunk digging around under the bird feeder. I just saw a squirrel approach it. He didn’t come too close, and then he ran up a tree. Let us hope that squirrels are smart enough to not get sprayed.
