First Day Recap

It’s going to take a while for President Joe to undo all of the fascist shit that his nazi cheeto predecessor screwed up. In his first day in office though, he took some serious first steps.

He rejoined the World Health Organization because he’s not a moron. He instituted a mask mandate for all federal employees and anyone on federal property. He also created a covid response coordinator position. He signed an order preserving DACA, he reversed the muslim travel ban, he ended the idiotic ban on diversity training because he isn’t an idiot, he canceled the Keystone Pipeline permit and announced we will rejoin the Paris climate agreement.

As first days go… not bad, Joe. It’s definitely a good start.

President Biden

The world has been dealing with a global pandemic for about a year now. For the first time, the United States of America is actually going to take the situation seriously and implement a unified national response.

We’ve lost 400,000 lives so far and we are going to lose many more. For the first time though, we are going to do something about it.

What is that I’m feeling? Is it optimism?

Wow… I forgot about that one.

The Last Full Day

I wanted to take tomorrow off so that I could glue myself to the television and gleefully watch the Inauguration. I’m actually in a place at work where I need to take vacation time or I’ll lose it, so Wednesday the 20th seemed perfect. Unfortunately, I have FIVE meetings booked on the 20th. There are things going on at home today too, so I took today off instead. I’m actually doing the opposite of what I would have done tomorrow. I’m trying to stay away from the news, mostly.

Today is trump’s last full day as president. The twice impeached, terrorist, baby cager who has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans via Covid-19 is about to leave office. One part of me is thrilled beyond measure. Most of me is scared shitless. After the events of January 6th when his cult graduated from whack jobs to terrorists, I have been terrified of what comes next. We’re down to the last 24 hours or so and if something is going to happen, it’s going to happen soon.

On the plus side, we’re a day away from having actual adult non-narcissists who are capable of simple human empathy in charge of the Covid-19 response and the vaccination plans. Assuming the coup d’état is behind us (pretty please?) then the longest, most nightmarish four year stretch of my personally experienced American history is almost over.

An Agonizing Wait

The wait is killing me slowly. Like, the five day wait for the end of the twice impeached one termer’s first and only term is just too much to handle. The end is so close, yet so far away. So desperately far away. Cheeto can do so much damage in five days.

Biden gave a speech about Covid-19 plans today and it reminded me of what it used to be like when we had a president who was presidential and not a vindictive, petty, buffoon, toddler man. Remember? Remember what it was like to have a real human being as president and not a spray tanned cheeto with a blob of steel wool stapled to his head?

Five days. January 16, 17, 18, 19, and then the day it happens, January 20th. It’s going to feel so good to have a grown up in charge again.

Impeachment Cat

Patches is about as anti-nazi as a feline can get. She is pleased with the outcome of the events in the House of Representatives today.

However, she is also furious that it had to happen at all.

Damned nazi pricks.

Twice

Barak Obama is better than Donald Trump in every measurable way except one. He was a better President, he is a better person, he has a Nobel Prize, he’s probably better at golf and every other sport, he’s never been divorced, he’s never paid to fuck a porn star (that we know of). There are so many things at which Barak Obama is superior to Donald Trump.

The one exception? Getting impeached. Donald Trump has been impeached while Barak Obama, in double the amount of time, was never impeached.

Now, as of this afternoon, Donald Trump has once again shown how much better he is at getting impeached than Barak Obama by getting impeached an unprecedented second time. Only three US Presidents have ever been impeached, Johnson, Clinton, and Trump. Nixon was about to be impeached but he resigned in order to avoid the shame (and the criminal charges, thanks to Gerald Ford). Trump has now been impeached twice. The first president in US history to be impeached twice.

Word is that speaker Pelosi will be sending the articles of impeachment over to the Senate right away. The Senate will then do the same thing they did last time and make a mockery out of the process which by extension makes a mockery out of the checks and balances setup by the Constitution. The Senate is currently on recess until the 19th, which is the last full day of the twice impeached trump’s one and only term. He could call for the Senate to reconvene early, but why would he want to do that? It’s not like the twice impeached trump launched a violent assault on the Capitol or anything, right?

Congratulations to the twice impeached fascist in chief who has once again proven that he is infinitely better at getting impeached than his presidential predecessor, Barak Obama, ever was.

In case you missed the point here, donald trump has been impeached. Again. Unlike last time, 10 republican representatives crossed the aisle to vote in favor. Last time the only republican to vote in favor was senator Romney. This time we will need 17 senators (I think) to vote in favor and that’s a tall order. It looks like the trial won’t happen until after trump leaves office though. At that point the Democrats will have the majority in the Senate but that alone won’t be enough.

The only question left is, how much damage can the fascist in chief do in the final seven days of his term?
