Trade Deadline Day

The Bruins beat the crap out of the Florida Panthers last night thanks to a hat trick by David Krejci.  Ever since going AWOL last season, it pleases me to no end to watch Tim Thomas get shelled.  After yesterday’s trade that brought former Vancouver goalie (and Thomas’ 2011 Stanley Cup Finals opponent) Roberto Luongo to Florida, it will please me even more to watch Thomas sit on the bench as Luongo gets shelled.  I don’t expect that will happen though.  I can’t imagine Tim Thomas makes it through today’s 3:00pm ET trade deadline without being moved.  He has a no trade clause, but I expect he’ll waive it for just about any team.  I can’t imagine he’s happy about being Luongo’s back up, although now there is no question of whether or not he needs to pump Lu’s tires.

The trade deadline is a fun day to be an NHL fan with an internet connection.  I just wish it fell on a weekend so I could actually pay attention to it.  I expect to find a live blog following the news this afternoon (I’m in a meeting all morning) but I don’t expect to actually have any time to look at it.

The Bruins need a defenseman.  Preferably a top pairing kinda guy but at least a top four.  They have a huge hole to fill with Dennis Seidenberg (am I even close to spelling that right?  I could look it up but… lazy) being out for the season.  That’s the big need.  Beyond that they are just looking for depth all around.  They have been tied to a number of big names, mostly forwards, but that might be just an attempt to drive up the price for their rivals.  Specifically, Ryan Kesler has been rumored to be going to Pittsburgh for a few days now.  Suddenly the Bruins are in the talks too.  As much as Kesler NEEDS to be a Bruin, I think that has more to do with trying to get Pitt to over pay than an actual chance of him coming here.  Who knows.

Enjoy the trade deadline, and may the Bruins hit the jackpot.

Crazy

This has been the craziest busy day ever. Everyone seems to be cramming a full weeks worth of crazy into one day.

I started mixing another song last night but decided I would be better served by sleeping. Good thinking on my part.

So The Walking Dead… I knew they were working on a spin off, but I thought it would be all new characters somewhere else in the world. I didn’t think it would be just about The Governor, and I didn’t think it was replacing the original show. Did the main cast need a vacation or something? Two weeks in a row of side story. I’m ready for the main story arc to come back now. Hell, I was ready seven days ago. That being said, the crazier that character gets the more fun he is.. and he’s getting pretty crazy again.

The Bruins play the Penguins tonight in a happy playoff rematch. Remember how the Penguins were heavily favored and then got swept by the Bruins? Remember that? Do you think his Bruins teammates let Jarome Iginla forget that for even a second? Tonight is a match up between the two top teams in the East. I probably won’t watch much, but I might catch some on the radio. There are just so many things going on right now.

I had planned to finish up the last two or three songs worth of guitar parts today but I watched zombie television instead. The whole project this month is completely disorganized. I don’t even know how many songs are left to finish. After the big chunk of work I did on Friday, I expect it to get finished on time. I just don’t feel very good about the whole thing. My guitar playing has been so bad it’s painful. It’s painful to listen to, and it’s painful to play. My finger tips are still burning from Friday. My playing has been bad enough to take a lot of the fun out of this. If I don’t keep practicing between now and February I might not do RPM. I mean, I know I suck but at least when I’m at my best I can fool myself into thinking I don’t suck too bad. I can’t do that right now.

Bring the Cup Back to Boston!

I gotta tell ya… I still can’t believe it.  As hard as it was to imagine the Bruins beating the Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals, the idea of seeing them win in a sweep was just too incredible to consider.  I mean… the Penguins just plain rule this year, and the Bruins have been this schizophrenic mess for pretty much the whole season.

But…

They did it.  Four games to none.  The Bruins are the Eastern Conference Champs and they have advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals against the winner of the Blackhawks/Kings series.  The ‘Hawks are up three games to one, but I still have hope for the Kings to come back and win it.

Last night was insane.  A one to nothing win on a third period goal by Darth Quaider.  What a game.  What a game!  What a series!  I am one shocked Bruins fan, I gotta tell ya!

Here’s the highlight video from last night’s game.

It’s time to bring the Stanley Cup back to Boston, where it belongs!

Being the Cup Back to Boston!

Bruins/Penguins Game Four Tonight

I used to think that a three games to none lead in a seven game series was a lock.  Then in 2004 the Red Sox came out of a 3-0 hole and beat the Yankees in the American League Championship series.  On the flip side there was 2010 when the Bruins blew a 3-0 series lead to the Flyers in the Conference Semi Finals.

Especially for Boston fans, three games to none series leads will never again feel safe.  We know better.

The Bruins have a three games to none lead over the Penguins and game four is tonight.  They took a 3-0 lead against the Flyers in 2011 and finished the sweep.  They took a 3-0 lead in the last round against the Rangers and finished the series in five games.  I should feel pretty confident.  I do not feel confident.  Cautiously optimistic, yes.  Confident?  No.

I need the Bruins to win tonight.  They have Pittsburgh down and they have to put them away without giving them any hope.  They have to finish them off quickly.  The Penguins showed us in game three that they are not going down without a fight.  However, in game two they showed us that if you rattle them enough they will cave in.  If the Bruins can jump out to a quick lead the way they have in the past two games… maybe that will do it.  Maybe that will break what’s left of the Penguins spirit.  Regardless, the Bruins have to play as if their life depends on it or else risk falling into that mean ol’ 2010 trap.

Win it tonight, Bruins.  Put them away while you can.

Go Bruins!

Double Overtime Hangover

I gotta tell ya… I have the worse case of the double overtime hangover.  I feel like I haven’t slept for days.

But what a game, eh?

You can watch the highlights here.

I was in the car when Krejci scored the first goal.  I saw the Penguins goal on TV.  There was still more than half a game to go at that point.  Before the third period ended I was listening to the radio.  I’d had enough of Pierre McGuire, and everyone in the house was asleep so I kept it quiet.  It seemed like four months went by waiting for one more goal.  The Penguins owned the third period.  The Bruins owned most of the overtime.  This was not a push over win like game two, this was playoff hockey at it’s most stressful.  Each time the puck came into our end I was panicked.  Each time it was in their end I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see who would be the hero.

The Penguins brought it for real last night.  The Bruins were not up to their level of play they showed in the first two games.  Still, the heavily favored Penguins could not find a way to beat the Bruins, and now Boston is up three games to none.  Game four is Friday.  Again, I ask, please please please please please put them away on Friday.  Memories of 2010 are still fresh.  You lost game four to the Rangers after winning the first three and there was pain and suffering in Bruins Nation.  Spare us more of that pain with a win on Friday.

Go Bruins!

Overtime

The Bruins scored in the first period.
The Penguins scored in the second period.
No one scored I the third period.

Off to overtime we go!

Did I mention that I HATE overtime?

The Penguins have been 1000 times better tonight, but Tuukka Rask has been HUGE in net for Boston.

Next goal wins.

Go Bruins!

Bruins vs Penguins Game Three Tonight

Last night the LA Kings beat the Chicago Blackhawks to close the gap in the Western Conference Finals.  The ‘Hawks now lead two games to one.

Let’s hope that doesn’t happen in the East, right?

Game three between the heroic Boston Bruins and the loathsome Pittsburgh Penguins (yes, I am a homer.  Wanna make something of it?) is tonight at 8:00pm.  The Bruins hold a two games to none lead after shocking the crap out of the hockey pundits by winning the first two games of the series on the road.  The big question around these here parts was who would play goal for the Pens.  Apparently, Tomas Vokoun has said publicly that he’ll be playing tonight.  Is that true?  Is it a clever ruse?  Who knows.  The real question is, does it matter?  Will the Bruins that gutted out a game one win and then slaughtered the more talented Penguins going to keep their foot on the gas and take game three at home?

Let’s hope so!

Go Bruins!

Game Two Glory for the Boston Bruins

How on Earth did this happen?  Says Bruins nation gleefully.
How on Earth did this happen?  Says Penguin nation miserably.  Is there a Penguin nation?

The Bruins took game two of the Eastern Conference Finals last night in a score that looks very much like what most people thought a Penguins victory would look like.  6-1.  That’s Six goals for the defense first Bruins to One goal for the offensive juggernaut Penguins.  But… How?… What?… Who?…

The Bruins have a two games to none lead in the series.  They are two wins away from going back to the Stanley Cup Finals!  (They are also four measly losses away from going home for the summer.  I’m not going to be the overly optimistic guy who jinxes things for Bruins fans everywhere.  Nope, not me.  Nothing but cautious optimism from this guy)  Brad Marchand scored 28 seconds into the game and it was all downhill from there for Pittsburgh.  They pulled Vokoun after three goals and then saw Fleury give up three more.  There was exactly one downside to this game from a Boston standpoint.  That chump Tuukka Rask let in a goal.  Useless!  Trade his ass!  (that is sarcasm.  One goal in two games against this Penguins lineup?  I’d be more apt to put him in the hall of fame than trade him)

But… but… but… the Penguins were supposed to destroy us.  It was supposed to be ugly for Bruins fans.  Instead it’s been nothing but glory and tales to tell the grandchildren.

In other words, it’s been wicked fun!

Now we come home for games three and four.

Go Bruins!  Keep it up!  Beat the Penguins!  Do it quick because our collective stomachs can’t handle a swing in momentum!

GO BRUINS!

I Dreamed the Bruins Won Game One

I had a really nice happy dream last night. I dreamed that the Bruins took game one of the Eastern Conference Finals from the Penguins by a score of 3-0. Krejci scored twice, Horton scored once, and Tuukka Rask was out of his skull awesome in the shutout. It was a nice happy little dream.

What?

You’re saying that it wasn’t a dream?

The Bruins really did take game one last night?

Really?

Woohoo! Go Bruins!

PS: Does that mean the Red Sox really beat the Yankees 11-1 with Napoli hitting a grand slam? Sweet!
