One More Manual Lens on a DSLR

It occurred to me this morning that while I tried both of Dad’s manual lenses on my DSLR, I never tried the one from my film camera.

Until now.

It totally works. Nice. Expect a bird feeder pic in the near future.

Catching Up

Right then. The turkey is in the oven, the first round of dishes are in the dishwasher, I finished Bellana’s laundry, I took out the trash and the recycling, and the camera batteries are all charged up. That means I can post the pics I would have posted in the last post.

My first stop on the film shootin’ journey today was Walnut Grove Cemetery. It looks something like this:

My second stop was Greycourt Park which looks a little something like this:

My third stop was the guitar nook which you’ve already seen in the last post, but this time the pic is from my DSLR because I’m a total fucking snob:

Now, in honor of The Great Black and White Film Experiment of 2022, which was the reason for the first of the two stops this morning, here are the same three digital pictures in black and white:

Aht

I tooks me an ahtsy photo today for the photo a day fun.

80/365. I’m 21.9% done.

Isn’t that loverly?

My dad gave me a scare tonight but everything seems to be okay. Bellana will be home tomorrow and we’re having pre-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving. It was supposed to be a mini-Thanksgiving but there’s a turkey in the fridge that says otherwise. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I can’t wait.

On a musical note, I added another song idea to the NaSoAlMo queue and it brought me over the 29:09 goal. Maybe I will push myself to finish. Maybe there will be some car music this week.

I might need to go to bed early so that I can wake up super early and get my exercise and breakfast finished before the turkey fun begins.

Direct Input

I said in a post from earlier today that I was thinking about just saying screw it and recording some guitar tracks via direct input into Garageband so that I could play while people were sleeping… and then I did it. I added guitars to two NaSoAlMo songs. They sound okay. I am so rusty that the playing was just bad. Who knows, if I get a burst of energy at a time when I can make noise I might redo the tracks from today through the glory that is my Deluxe Reverb. Until then, this will do.

Film vs Digital Exercise

I did this recently and today I did it again, while suffering through stomach pain because I don’t know how to eat food anymore.

I put my DSLR onto the tripod, set the ISO to as close as I could get to the new roll of film, zoomed in to a point that is similar to the lens currently on Dad’s camera, used the light meter on my iPhone and set the aperture and shutter speed manually, manually focused while basically laying on the ground (I’m tall), and took a picture.

Then I put the DSLR away and did all of the same steps with Dad’s film camera. Assuming I didn’t mangle the film while struggling to load the camera earlier today, then I have one picture down and 35 to go.

Some day in the distant future I will get this new roll developed and then I will compare the results. the focal length won’t be the same because the lenses don’t match up exactly, and the ISO on the film is 100 and my DSLR only goes down to 200 so really the two pics won’t have much of anything to do with each other… but so what.

I did notice that even with the aperture set the same, the depth of field was massively different. I couldn’t get the guitar and the amp both into focus with Dad’s camera so I focused on the guitar. We’ll see if it comes out… someday.

Also, just to note, I had to move my guitar nook to the other side of my office because of something to do with work that I don’t want to mention. This is how it looks now.

Groovy Sky

Jen’s in the office today. As I watched her pull out of the driveway I couldn’t help but notice that the sky looked really cool. I had a bag of bird seed to put out today so I took my camera when I went outside and took today’s photo-a-day picture.

I also tried and failed to get a cool pic of the sun through the trees.

Fail

I also did another one of these stinkers.

And there you have it. My quick trip to the backyard on this day that I fear is going to be a royally shitty day. The good news though, Harry comes home tomorrow and Bellana comes home on Sunday. That will make it all better.

Nerd Boy Screws Up His Plans

I had every intention of going to visit both of my parents today. Unfortunately I suck at eating and my lunch angered my stomach and I was nauseous enough to not want to leave the house. I did buy a whole new wardrobe this morning but that is the best I could do.

I played some guitar in the hopes it would make me feel better. It didn’t. Emotionally or digestively. I played with the self timer and the remote shutter on my camera in between takes of tracks for National Solo Album Month (up to three songs now. Yippee). I have redefined the word “Nerd”.

HeHeHe... Nerd.
Robert the Slack Jawed Yokel, coming soon to a Simpsons episode near you.

This one was taken in manual mode at least. No self timer or remote shutters here.

I just love that red jewel light on the Deluxe Reverb.

The doofus in those pics might look like a total goof, but that guitar is a thing of beauty, isn’t it? Did I mention that Jen bought me that for my 50th birthday? Good work, Jen.
