Yesterday I posted a new recording of a song from this past summer. Tonight I post a brand new song for the November National Solo Album Month project. Caution: This one has keyboards. I buried them in the mix to be safe though so I think we’re okay.

It’s November All Right
It’s November. In terms of weather and seasons that blows chunks. In terms of music… get ready to be bored to tears, boys and girls!
One song underway. 7/8 time and it has a keyboard part. I must be completely insane. Keyboards? Blah!
On the blogging nerd front, I mentioned about seven days ago that we broke the record for page views in a month with a whole seven days still to go. Well, those seven days are up now and did we ever destroy that monthly record. Boy howdy, did we ever! September broke the record at the time. The September count was 3% higher than the previous record. The October count though… holy shit, the October count was 31% higher than the September count. THIRTY ONE PERCENT! I don’t really know what happened. Sure I posted more than any other month, and sure I was bombing the universe with baseball playoffs and Red Sox panic. Still… a 31% increase? How the fudge did that happen?
Okay, I still have seven minutes of exercise to finish. I think I’ll get to it now.
In the immortal words of Bender Bending Rodriguez, it’s fun on the bun.
A Couple of Pointless Musical Musings
I think I may have just broken the My Music page attached to this blog. Oops. I have a bandcamp.com page that I don’t promote. I just stick album-in-a-month type projects there. I haven’t updated it since finishing the bonus RPM Challenge thing from April 2020. Earlier today I set all of the projects there to private… forgetting that I had playlists embedded on the My Music page. Again, oops.
The reason I did it was that I am planning to put all of the re-recordings from the last year and a half or so up there and have those be the only thing visitors can see. That seems like a good move, assuming my attempt at having the new recordings be at least slightly better than the old ones. Better sound, better performances, and fewer crappy songs. I think it’s a good idea. I just have to do it.
The album-in-a-month internet challenge with the undisputed worst name of them all, NAtional SOlo ALbum MOnth (NASOALMO) is going to kick off on Monday. I’ll take it for another spin. I’m thinking of a gear swap. I’ve been using my Fender Bassbreaker 15 as my amp for the last four months or so. For November I am thinking of using my little Vox MV50 and it’s NuTube technology which is totally not a gimmick (wink, wink). I remember using it on an album-in-a-month once at some point, but it was paired with the Bassbreaker 15 and they were both using their direct out/speaker sims. I don’t think I’ve ever recorded anything with the MV50 through an actual speaker into a microphone. November seems like a good time to finally use it for reals.
Finally, Klon is going to start shipping the new KTR pedals in about three weeks. I absolutely do not need one. Still… let the Gear Acquisition Syndrome commence!
Granted, all of this depends on whether or not our furnace is working. They are still downstairs working on it. I have said it before (well, typed it) and I will say (type) it again… Heat my house!
Now it’s Finished
Behold, my latest crappy internet challenge album!
As usual, here is a link to a playlist that should actually play.
I think I’m supposed to add a link to the nasoalmo webpage too. I guess I could do that. Yippee.
National Solo Album Month: Complete
I just finished the 10th and final song for this year’s National Solo Album Month. Proud of me? No? That’s okay. It still feels nice in a goofy, musically masturbatory way.
Because this is supposed to be an actual album, not just a write-10-songs-in-a-month thing, I am going to give it some actual cover art, and a title. I think this song will end up as the title song. Not sure yet. If so I think I’ll find the cover photo in one of my vacation-to-Washington albums on Flickr. I also need a real running order rather than just put them in the order they were mixed. Hmmm… so maybe I’m not actually done after all. I’ll post the whole thing after I figure that out.
Almost Done with NaSoAlMo
I’m almost done with this year’s National Solo Album Month. As previously mentioned, I added the vocals to the last three songs today. I was also able to add the lead guitar to those last three songs as well, and I’ve topped it off with a mix.
This song was absolutely meant to be a throw away thing that I would stick at the end of the final record and never listen to again. Now that it’s done? I kinda like it. It’s got some groovy little vibe to it that doesn’t make any sense to me but I’m not going to knock it.
Music Progress
I mixed two more NaSoAlMo songs tonight but hearthis.at is down so I won’t share them.
Six songs finished, three more in the pipeline. I still need to come up with one more.
There’s nothing special in this batch. Nothing terrible, but all kinda blah. My playing isn’t very good right now. I’m trying my best but it’s all kinda sloppy and weak.
Two New Songs
I mixed a couple of November tunes tonight. The first one is kinda okay. The second one is kinda not so okay. Enjoy!
NaSoAlMo – Two Songs Down
Here’s another one. I like everything about this except for the leads. They are awkward and sloppy and cheesy and I’m mad at myself for not being better than this.
Something Different… A New Song!
Hey look, something different! A new song! Yet another new song! Yet another in an endless parade of second rate demos of third rate songs coming out of quarantineland 2020!
