My wife called me as I was coming home from band practice to tell me that the house had no water. Within five minutes of getting home there were a bunch of trucks a couple of houses down the street. It’s a water main break.
What fun! Don’t flush the toilet!
There are a couple of little memorials at Forrest Lake, by the boat ramp. I don’t know any of the details.
You know, if the ice is soft enough to leave footprints, you probably shouldn’t be walking on it. You know what I mean?
Every time I try to take a panorama of Forrest Lake it comes out looking like a squat little puddle. I mean, it’s not a big body of water at all, but it’s more impressive than this.
Every town should have something it can brag about. Something that is better there than in all the neighboring towns.
For Methuen, that thing is the Nevins Library. I can say with all honesty that my town’s library is better than yours. (huge city libraries are excluded from that statement)
The oil change place doesn’t open for 15 minutes so I went to the town lake to kill some time.
I have the whole place to myself right now.

Another day, another music recital at the library.
I pulled into the driveway with a trunk full of groceries. When I stepped out of the car I happened to look back toward the street. In the distance, for just a second, I caught sight of a bird flying along. It was big. It had a dark body. It had a white head.
I know there are bald eagles in the Methuen Bird Sanctuary. I’ve seen pictures.
Did I just see a bald eagle flying down route 28?
I think I did.
