Spam Filter Fails

Want to know something that would make me really happy?

It would make me really happy if the damn spam filter in Gmail would actually do it’s damn job.

I can’t tell you how many junk emails I get over the course of a day that I have already, on multiple occasions, marked as spam. I know I’ve already marked the from addresses as spam because when I send the new emails to the spam folder I don’t get prompted with the unsubscribe option the way you do when you send something to spam the first time.

It’s not the end of the world or anything, but it does get on my nerves. It is something small and annoying that really pisses me off when it happens.

Come on Gmail. I’ve been a user since 2005 for crying out loud. Do your damn job.

Grinds My Gears

What was I talking about?

I was about to write a post that rips off a Family Guy episode but Taylor Hall just scored a highlight reel goal in game three of the Bruins/Capitals series and it’s all I can think about right now. Ovetchkin scored a power play goal to put the Caps up 1-0 in the second period, and then the Bruins came right back and scored to tie it. The goal was fantastic, but the blind backhand pass that set it up was utterly spectacular. Was it Krejci? I didn’t see. I need another replay.

So what was I talking about? Oh yeah, wanna know what really grinds my gears? When I’m on gmail.com and I go into the spam folder to clear it out and in the instant that I click to delete everything, a new spam message shows up and I am left with one unwanted message when I should have zero.

Yeah, that wouldn’t have been an interesting post even if it hadn’t been interrupted by an awesome goal. I think the blind backhand pass that setup the Hall goal came from Craig Smith.

Seven minutes left in the 2nd and the Caps are putting on some serious pressure. Lots of back and forth in this game though. It’s a good game right now.

Go Bruins.

Replacing Native Apps

Yesterday I made a mobile app decision. Henceforth I will no longer be using the native email app on my iPhone or iPad. I have replaced it in the dock with the Gmail app. I did the same thing with Chrome and Safari a while ago.

Since making the change last night I have not received a single email. Not one. Not even spammy crap.

I’m not sure, but I think I broke the Internet. Sorry ’bout that.

April Fools Pranks

There was a time when Google rolled out the best April Fools pranks you could ever hope to find on the internet.  These days, you still get the feeling that April Fools is like Christmas, New Years, and your birthday all rolled into one for many Google employees, but the pranks are not what they used to be.

They have a couple of decent ones today.  I’ve only found two, but I’m sure there are more.

Google Nose (Beta)

Gmail Blue

I have also heard that some one posted that the Red Sox have signed Curt Schilling.  That’s a good one.

I saw one last night too and that threw me off completely.  Soundcloud’s blog posted something that seemed ridiculous.  I thought it was an April Fools joke that leaked early.  A minute ago it dawned on me that Soundcloud is based in Germany.  The joke wasn’t early, I was.  Oh well..
