Another Fun Task

If I were to list off the things I’d least like to do on a Monday day off with six feet of snow outside and temperatures in the negatives, I think shop vac’ing up a flooded basement after the washing machine’s outflow popped out of the drain pipe would be very high on the list.

Yup, that was a big part of my morning.

Yippee.

Welcome to Flood Season

This is not an April Fools post. I know it’s on the internet, so statistically speaking you wouldn’t be wrong in expecting an April Fools post, but this one is just a normal boring Rob post.

The weather channel reported that there is a flood watch in effect for my neck of the woods. The flood level for The Mighty Spicket River is eight feet. As of this morning the river was at 8.1 feet. One of the spots being watched is the Hampshire Street bridge. I left the house early this morning and paid a visit. I should have brought my real camera but I didn’t. I only had my iPhone.

0.1 feet might not sound like a lot, but it’s enough to spill pretty far over the banks.

Forgiving my stupid shadow, you can see that the water is almost up to the bottom of the bridge. It’s not enough to worry about yet, but it looks like we’re one rain storm away from closing the road.

Here’s the view from the other side of the street.

The area right at my feet is usually dry land.

Again, pardon my stupid shadow. This makes me wish I had my ND filter so I could take some long exposures. Maybe tonight after work?

Most of what you see here is usually dry land.

I parked my car in what I believe is a bus company’s lot. I didn’t even notice that the back end of the lot was under water until just before I left.

One more for the road. Yet another lame attempt at being artsy. Urgh.

Weird Noises

The kitchen, dining room, and bathroom have all been cleaned. All that’s left to do is the kids’ rooms. Those are just as terrifyingly messy as one would imagine rooms belonging to a 10 year old boy and 12 year old girl would be. In other words, they are complete disaster areas. We’ll get to those next weekend when the kids are actually here. Other than that, everything we needed to clean this weekend has been cleaned.

I’m not sure where it call came from, but I took out nine bags of trash this weekend. NINE! I have no idea how that happened. I just know that I want to apologize to the Methuen Waste Management crew responsible for our neighborhood in advance. It’s nothing personal, guys. It’s just business. I mean that in the least ironic way possible.

There is one more on going issue for today. Simply put, what the hell is that sound that the washing machine is making? We actually had a little bit of a washing machine flood yesterday, but I have no clue what happened. I went upstairs and everything was fine, I went back downstairs and there was a puddle around the machine. I have since run the machine a bunch of times, including one time where I sat and watched it run from start to finish, and nothing happened. I am going to assume for now that I just overloaded the machine (I didn’t) and it caused an overflow. Now, however, the machine is in the wash cycle and it is making a weird, high pitched humming sound. I have no idea what’s causing it, I just know that the wet vac is ready to go in case of emergency.

Wish us luck!

Wanna Know What Sucks?

Would you like to know what sucks?

Having the outflow hose from your washing machine pop out of the outflow pipe and drain a full rinse cycle onto the floor.

Wanna know what else sucks?

Having the thing that sucks happen right in the middle of a huge thunderstorm so that you just assume the water came in from the storm outside, and then getting up the next morning and starting another load of laundry which then spills a full wash and a full rinse cycle onto your cellar floor.

Sonofa…
