You can still drop the “the.” It’s cleaner.

So remember a couple of months ago when my band, El Pez Lagarto (the Lizardfish), played at my high school reunion? Well the organizers of that little shindig, while putting the plans together, created a Facebook group and added every member of our class they could find to it.
Also, remember a couple of days ago when I posted a flyer that Kevin the drummer made to advertise our 2/1/20 show onto this page? Kevin often makes flyers like that for our shows, but in this case the manager of the venue actually asked for one.
Well those two worlds just collided. Mike just posted the flyer into the high school reunion Facebook group. To quote the guy from Quantum Leap: Oh boy.
We’re practicing tonight. We’re also supposed to get a mini-blizzard tonight. I’m thinking I’ll take the less-expensive guitar with me. What do you guys think?*
*Don’t answer. I don’t actually care what anyone thinks. It’s just a figure of speech.
On a totally unrelated note, did you know that Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage is on Netflix? I didn’t know before, but I do know… because I just watched it. It’s still my all time favorite rock music documentary. It’s even better than the best rock mockumentary, This is Spinal Tap. You could even say that the movie is so epic that by the time it ends it is being influenced by itself at the beginning.
Today, February 4th, is a very interesting day. There are many important birthdays.
My step son turns 11 today. He was four when he and his sister decided that I was good enough for their Mom. I will forever be grateful to them for that kindness. On the day I first met him, Jen warned me that he would be super shy and would probably hide from me. I was ready for that. Then when we all met up outside of the Chuck-E-Cheese’s in Framingham, he strode right up to me without any hesitation and asked me if I’d like to see something he did in school that day. The little man liked me from the word go. I have no clue how I got to be so lucky. Seven years later and he still doesn’t mind me hanging around.
My nephew turns three today. I recently got my hair cut. The woman chopping my locks asked me if I had any kids, and if so did they get my red hair? I told her that I was step father to the two best kids imaginable, but that I had not passed on my glorious red head. I also told her that it was okay because my sister has the same hair and her son, who turns three today… just making sure you’re paying attention… was fortunate enough to get the same color. The red hair has been passed on to the next generation!
Facebook turns 10 today. Yup. The last nail in myspace’s coffin… The Accidental Billionaire… Millions upon millions of pictures of people’s dinner (I am as guilty as the next nerd)… it all started 10 years go today.
See? I told you February 4th was an interesting day.
I like Facebook’s Timeline. Now I’m looking forward to this.
However…
Facebook users, prepare for the onslaught of hate! Prepare for weeks upon weeks of news feeds flooded with bitching and moaning and “I want the old Facebook back!”
Do any of the people who were furious three or four revisions ago honestly still wish they had the old format back? I doubt it. Timeline is cool. Graph Search could be cool too. It might suck to the high heaven, but it might be cool.
Let’s face it, the minute Facebook stops evolving it becomes Myspace. Speak up if you want that. >insert sound of crickets chirping here<
Change is good, people. Embrace the new.
