Christmas Eve Revisited

Every year since I started dating my wife I have been a part of her family’s christmas eve party. They were originally at her mother’s house, then they were at our house, now they are at her mother’s house again. This year, in order to get both of the kids there at the same time, we had to push it from the 24th to the 29th. Today. That means today is technically our christmas eve.

Just when you thought the holiday was over, we pull you back in!

Happy christmas eve revisited, everyone! HoHoHo again!

Christmas Eve

So our annual christmas eve party with Jen’s side of the family got a little mangled this year. So what. We still pulled it off. Sure, post-Covid christmases might look a little weird, but they still work.

Merry Christmas, Nana and Papa.

Christmas Eve

Hello and welcome to christmas eve! It was 55 degrees out yesterday and it’s 10 degrees out right now. That’s a 45 degree swing in about 15 hours. Hooray! Also, I have a bad stomach ache this morning. It’s all winning today, left and right. Hooray!

I have more cookies to bake today. I am finished with today’s exercise. What else. Don’t think I am going out to take christmas eve pics because, as mentioned, 10 degrees Fahrenheit. I am certainly not going to the ocean. To hell with that frosty noise.

Okay, time to start the day. HoHoHo

Also, Jen sent us this a few minutes ago. Apparently Santa Claus gets a fighter escort from NORAD in both the US and Canada. Nice of the red suited dude to slow down for them, right?

Today was a Good Day

Today wasn’t the usual Christmas Eve for us, but it was still a good day. It was just the four of us rather than the extended family, but I loved every second of it. The kids are going to their dad’s tomorrow afternoon so we did the full blown Christmas dinner today. After that it was Christmas music, Christmas TV specials, Christmas sweaters, and Christmas games.

Covid-19 is a solid kick to the scrotum, but it couldn’t hold us back today.

Today was a good day. Looking forward to another good day tomorrow, now go to sleep or Santa Claus won’t come.

Christmas Eve Arrives

It’s here.  Christmas Eve.  For the first time in 10 years I have the day off.  WOOHOO

We’re having some family over tonight.  The house is almost clean.  The floors need to be swept and mopped and the bathroom needs to be touched up.  All of the gifts are wrapped and where they need to be.  My beautiful wife is in the kitchen starting on the kielbasa.  It smells soooo good.

The weather in New England is supposed to be awful tonight.  Be careful out there, all you celebrators.  Here’s to Christmas Eve going off without a hitch!

HoHoHo

Christmas Eve Bullet Dodged?

I have two step kids. The oldest is 11. This is her first Christmas knowing the Santa Claus secret. The youngest is a little more than a month shy of turning 10. He is still a believer, but its a close call.

We might have blown it tonight… Maybe. Probably not, but maybe.

All day long he’s been psyched to the point of spontaneous combustion. He mentioned early this afternoon that he might have trouble falling asleep before Santa’s arrival tonight. I just shrugged it off because I knew he was already hyper enough to be wearing himself out.

Not quite.

We let him stay up a little late, but when bed time came along he went quietly. His sister stayed up late too because she wanted to help Santa. We waited about half an hour after bed time and peeked in my stepson’s room and he was wide awake. My beautiful wife, his mother, sat with him for a little while trying to get him to relax. Apparently he was scaring the crap out of himself in two ways. First, he thought an episode at school might have put him on the naughty list. We assured him that was not the case. Second, he was afraid that if he’s awake at midnight then Santa would skip our house. We assured him that too was incorrect. He seemed okay, and he had a little warm milk.

All was well. Santa came and dished out the gifts, ate the cookies, fed the carrots to the reindeer, and drank the milk. He was starting to fill the stockings. All were taken down, one was returned to the mantle, a second was about to be re-hung when a knock came on the door.

Crap!

I kept him out of the room on a pretty thin pretext, but he could probably hear what was going on. He didn’t seem to figure out what was going on, but who knows. We calmed him down again and told him that he had nothing to worry about and he went back to bed okay. But I am worried that he heard more than he let on, or that he is laying in bed putting two and two together right now.

…and the clock creeps toward midnight with me fearing we might have blown what is probably his last real shot at being a true believer.

HoHoHo.

Less Than Six Hours to Go

My step son is not quite 10 years old and he is freaking out with Christmas anticipation. Within an hour of getting home from work today he asked me twice if I was excited for Santa. He’s also asked if he should go to bed an hour early just to make sure he’s asleep by midnight. On top of that, he wants a glass of warm milk at bedtime.

Having kids at Christmas is the coolest thing ever!
