A Good Day for Boston

An American won the marathon? Cool!

Now if the Red Sox can pull off this come back, and my doctor can tell me that I don’t have Lyme Disease, this could be a pretty good day all over.

Post script: as I was adding the picture the Red Sox made an awful boneheaded base running play that ended a rally. Let’s hope my doctor gets better results.

A Thought on San Diego

There is only one downside that I can see about moving from Boston to San Diego. (we’re not, I’m just fantasizing)

San Diego does not have an NHL team.

There’s the LA Kings and the Anaheim Ducks. I expect I would follow the Kings for my local NHL fix, although Ducks games would be slightly closer to home.

I’d still be a Bruins fan, of course. I mean… duh!

Blurry Deer

Twice today I had the opportunity to take a few pics of wild animals in the back yard, and twice today there wasn’t enough light for me to get anything other than blurry messes. Mostly, at least. This morning it was a bunch of turkeys. This evening it was six deer. They came into the yard as opposed to the woods behind the yard, where we usually see them. They seemed to be checking out the bird feeder. Yet another group of mammals who don’t know that bird food is for birds.

Traffic Turkey

I was out of the house before 7:30 this morning. (I don’t remember exactly when I left. It was probably closer to 7:20)

I got to my desk at work at 9:32.

Two hours. It took me two hours to drive 43 miles.

Why?

There were no accidents, no break downs, no construction. It was raining a little That must be why I averaged about 20 miles per hour for the whole drive. Of course. Drizzle.

At least I got to see some turkeys in the back yard this morning.

CameraBag for Mac Once Again

Here are a few more examples of me having fun with presets on CameraBag for Mac.

Here is the original.
Untitled

This filter is called Vignette III.
swampy - vignette iii

This one is called Plastic.
swampy - plastic

This one is called Grain Strong. I didn’t see much difference at first, but it’s there.
swampy - grain strong

This filter is called 1947.
swampy - 1947

I should note that these are just the presets. I haven’t messed with any of the settings at all, but it looks like you have control over all sorts of stuff.

I should also mention that Flickr has apparently switched us all to their new photo page format. My major beef with the beta (and the reason I didn’t adopt it when it first became available) was that it took away the embed options from the sharing menu. That function is back now so I am happy. However, it needs to remember you last setting the way it used to. I’m already tired of having to switch to the HTML option and picking a size. Oh well. Everything else still looks okay to me. The more image on the screen, the better.

CameraBag for Mac #3

One more CameraBag post for now. This is the wrecked dock just up river from the dam on the Spicket River in Methuen. I wanted the colors on this one to pop more than they did. Let’s see if I can get the app to bring them out.

Here’s the original:

How’s this? This is why I used to love the Lolo filter on the iPhone app. It just makes the colors come flying out at you.

This one is called Candy.

This is a camera filter called 1958 Camera.

Finally we have a filter called Film NC-1D. I don’t know what that means, but I like the results here.

CameraBag for Mac #2

Here are a few more filters out of CameraBag 2.5 for Mac. Today’s guinea pig is a pic from the 9/11 Memorial in New York.

Here’s the original:
World Trade Center, 9/11 Memorial. New York, NY.

This is a camera simulator called Cinema. It was another of my go-to choices on the iPhone app:

This one is new to me. It’s called Skater Camera. I kinda like this one:

This camera is called Autochrome:

CameraBag for Mac

Did I mention I got promoted last month? Well I got a little bit of a raise today. I am celebrating by buying two things. Later I am going to buy The Walking Dead Compendium One which is 48 graphic novels in one 1000 page or so book.

First though, I bought CameraBag 2.5 for Mac. CameraBag for iPhone was the first camera app I put onto my first iPhone. It was a cool filter app before Instagram came along. It turned out to not be quite as cool as Hipstamatic, but there were no in-app purchases. I found out today that there is a Mac version. I read some reviews this morning before work and tonight I installed it (it was on sale).

So I am monkeying around with some of the presets. Allow me to bombard you with stuff. Because… ya know… I can.

I started with a pic of the Nubble Lighthouse. Here is the original, as shared on Flickr:
2012-05-26 to 28 - Bar Harbor 349

The first filter I tried is called 1967:
lighthouse - 1967

The next filter was one of my favorites from the iPhone version. Lolo. This picture probably isn’t a good choice for the filter, but I had to do it.
lighthouse - Lolo

Next is another fav from the iPhone app, Helga:
lighthouse - helga

Finally we have a black and white filter called 1962:
lighthouse - 1962

This is the first post you’re going to get showing off this application. It won’t be the last. It might be the first of 20-30 billion posts, all tonight. Enjoy.
