It Continues

Am I still sick?

Oh yeah, you betcha.

I feel about the same as yesterday. Cough, sneeze, stuffy, runny, the whole kit. I am going to work today though, but I’ll work from home. We are always short handed on Friday afternoons so I was going to be punched in this afternoon even if I was in the hospital. I figure I can suck it up for the full day and then go back to bed when I punch out at 5:30.

I slept a little during the day yesterday, and then went to bed about 8:30. I was planning on just putting the Bruins game on the radio and vegging until sleep claimed me, but they were playing so poorly that I switched to music. I was still awake when the kids went to bed at 9:30, but not much after that. I woke up a few times during the night, but only for a minute here and there.

I expect this weekend to be a washout. I hear it’s supposed to rain the whole time anyway. I suppose getting sick during bad weather is preferable to getting sick in good weather. Probably not, but let me have this delusion at least.

Speaking of the Bruins. They played a generally sucky team last night and lost. They also lost Zdeno Chara for 4-6 weeks with (I believe) a knee injury. I was worried that the lofty expectations were going to bite us on the ass, as they did with the Red Sox, and here we are… a 4-5 record and our best defenseman out for a month or more. It’s going to be a long year.

Hopefully I won’t be sick for the whole thing.

Bruins and History Repeating Itself

Think back to the early Spring…

Remember when the Red Sox season was about to start and everyone was sure they would be contenders this year? I mean, they were World Series Champs after all. Remember how after the season started it became clear that they couldn’t score runs at all and they ended up in dead last place after a full season of suck?

I sure hope that doesn’t happen to the Bruins… who have only managed one goal in each of their first four games and are currently holding a 1-3 record.

Boy… that would suck, huh?

Historical Significance

There are two events of historical significance happening today.

First, in Scotland people are voting on whether or not the country should remove itself from the United Kingdom. I can’t really have an opinion on this, not being Scottish or from the UK myself, but I think if Scotland leaves it would feel a little like Jack Bruce leaving Cream. Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker would still be staggeringly amazing, but without Jack? It just doesn’t work.

Second, Bruins training camp opens today. The cleansing of last year’s intolerable playoff defeat at the hands of Montreal begins in earnest. I want hockey revenge!

Back to Scotland, the best joke I’ve come up with in ages is that if Scotland becomes independent they should join up with Ireland. They can call themselves U2K.

Get it?

2014-15 Boston Bruins

The Bruins are holding captains practices in Wilmington, leading up to training camp a couple of weeks from now.

The playoff loss to Montreal left a bitter taste in my mouth, but in a different way then losing to Chicago in the finals did the season before last.

After Chicago I didn’t want anything to do with hockey. It was too sad. Too depressing to have come so close and lost.

This year though, I’m PISSED! I want revenge. On Montreal. On the division. On the conference. On the whole bloody NHL!

Kick all their asses, Bruins! Vengeance! Vengeance! Vengeance!

Now that the summer is unofficially over it is time to start jonzin’ for hockey.

Hardware for a Couple of Bruins

The NHL awards are tonight. Tuukka Rask won a much deserved Vezina trophy (the award given to the top goalie in the league) and Patrice Bergeron won the Selke trophy in an absolute no-brainer (the award given to the best defensive forward). Zdeno Chara lost out in his bid for another Norris Trophy to Duncan Keith (the award given to the best defenseman).

Congratulations to everyone who took home some hardware tonight, especially to the Bruins.

Still would have preferred a Stanley Cup.

They Are Dead to Me

Had they come out and played well last night (and Monday night) and lost I would feel better. No. The Bruins played like cow shit for the first half of last night’s game and never had a chance. The score was never out of hand, but they were never close.

It was not a choke on par with the 2010 3-0 lead. It was not a choke on par with losing game six of the Cup finals last year. It was, however, a monumental suck of a choke.

The hell with them. They’re dead to me.

It’s baseball season.

Go Red Sox.
