Hehe, the Microsoft store. The clerk was unable to log into the register. Seriously.

Pissah
Last year we discovered we had a gopher living in our back yard. Today my wife and I decided that it probably has the thickest Boston accent ever. Like, an accent so thick it’s just wicked pissah.
Just wanted to share that. That’s all. Go back to whatever you were doing.
HBO
We dumped cable. No more cable TV for us. That poses a problem. HBO. The shows on that network often don’t offer season passes on iTunes which means if you don’t have cable you fall way behind. Fortunately, HBO is the one cable network that understands cable is a relic of the 1980s and is now about as useful as a Blockbuster Video store. They started an online subscription service called HBO Now. I just signed us up. That means I’m ready for tomorrow…
When the new season of Game of Thrones premiers.
Bring it on.
How Did I Not Hear About This?
My wife and I were discussing which one of our hobby/habit/addictions was more expensive. Her regularly upgrading her home computer system, or me and guitars and all that go with it. She was talking about how much money she spends on computers, components, and accessories. I then countered with how much I could potentially spend, even though I don’t. I think I win.
I went to ebay to see if I could find The Holy Grail of my personal guitar collection fantasy guitars so that I could blow her mind with the price. Unfortunately ebay doesn’t have any right now. I’m talking about the Gibson Custom Shop’s replica of Eric Clapton’s red ES-335. While there weren’t any of those up for bidding, I did see something else.
Something better…
The Gibson Custom Shop has made a reissue of Clapton’s 1960 Les Paul. The one he used on the Bluesbreakers album!

But how? That guitar was stolen in 1966?
Oh hell, I don’t care. I WANT ONE!!!
Attack of the Clones Part 2
Wasp Execution
Earlier tonight I watched my father kill a wasp with an elastic band. This is a skill dad developed when he was a kid, lining up toy soldiers and blowing them away with rubber bands. At some point he turned his deadly accuracy to eliminating insects. I swear I saw him pick a big scary looking creepy flying bastard out of the air once. I’ve seen him do it hundreds of times and it never, ever stops being the most impressive thing ever.
If only bug extermination via rubber bands was a genetic trait that I could have inherited. Bummer.
Should Have Known
Have You Heard My New Amp?
Have you heard my awesome new amplifier? If you’re one of my neighbors you might have. This morning around 8:00am? Muahahaha!
This file is definitely going to get deleted. The drums and the rhythm guitars will be kept, the bass and the vocal and the little guitar noodle at the beginning are all temporary. This is my ES-335 through the Fulltone OCD pedal into my Fender Deluxe Reverb super amp.
Same deal with this one. Drums (probably) and rhythm guitar are keepers, everything else will be re-recorded. This is also my ES-335 and my Fender Deluxe Reverb, but it’s through a Electro Harmonix Nano Big Muff pedal instead of the OCD.
Prince
I’m working from home today. It’s gorgeous outside. I have all the windows open and a perfect breeze is blowing through the house. A little after 1:00pm I punched out for lunch and took a shower. When I got back to my computer Prince was dead.
I was never a Prince fan. You couldn’t help but respect the enormous talent, but his music just wasn’t for me. Trying to look at it objectively, I wonder how much of my lack of interest was actually jealousy? Probably a lot. Great singer, obviously a great songwriter, even if his songs aren’t my bag, and just an absolutely sick guitar player. I think that’s where the jealousy comes from.
In his memory though I feel the need to share some of his music. Here is Richard Thompson covering “Kiss”. It is pretty much the best thing ever.
Curt Schilling
The right to free speech means that Curt Schilling can say whatever he wants, regardless of how offensive it is, or how bigoted it is, or whatever.
The right to free speech does not, however, stop ESPN from firing Curt Schilling because of something he said while exercising his right to free speech.
I know many people find that confusing, but what it boils down to is this… You have the Constitutional right to be an asshole if you want to be an asshole. That does not mean you have the right to go unpunished for being an asshole.
Now that ESPN has fired Schilling the next step is ours. We have to just ignore him in the hopes that he’ll just go away.
He can blog on wordpress.com all he wants, but if no one reads what he writes then he’ll be just as irrelevant as I.
God Bless America!
