Maine Views

Two stops in Maine. First, a scenic view spot in Kennebunkport.

Hey, who lives around here? Oh, only the president Bush family. Too bad they weren’t Democrats like respectable people, but at least they never appeared to be card carrying fascists like a lot of current republicans.

The view from the other side of the house is more impressive, but this is where we stopped so it’s what you get.

Our second stop was a call back to our first trip to Bar Harbor. Back then, 11 years ago, Jen took me to a spot near York Beach that I didn’t even know was there. It was the start of my interest in New England light houses.

Nubble Light House. Last year when I declared I was going to take photos of light houses all summer I managed to get exactly one. This year after I declared I was going to take photos of light houses all summer I got one and then declared I was giving up. Now I have two. Crazy. Also, the right shift key on my MacBook keyboard is sticking or something. That’s why capitalization has been a little screwy of late. Just in case you noticed.

Home at Last

Jen and I left Bar Harbor this morning after having breakfast with Bellana. She’s staying for one more day. We took a scenic route home so that we could have a few views of the ocean in Southern Maine. It was beautiful.

I had a great time on this long weekend, but I am seriously happy to be home.

I’d rather not have to work tomorrow, but them’s the breaks, right?

Welcome home.

Weather and Wedding

The reason we’ve traveled up to Bar Harbor, ME is to go to a wedding. The wedding is late this afternoon. Right now it’s 8:40am and I’ve been up for three hours. Jen and Bellana are still asleep. I showered, had my morning vitamins, had my breakfast protein bars, and have watched a couple of Doctor Who episodes (new series, season eight, episodes nine and 10, and 11 is running as I type this).

We’re more or less shit out of luck for touristy things today. It’s raining out. Lots of rain. Serious rain. No Acadia National Park sight seeing today. No wandering around downtown today. I’m not sure what we’re going to do, apart from getting ready for the wedding and all that fun. It’s going to be a good time tonight, but until then it might be a little on the extra low-key side.

weather be damned, it’s going to be a good day.

Summit Views

Views from the summit of Cadillac Mountain. Digital version. There will be 2-3 film shots someday in the distance future.

This one was from the hotel restaurant where we had breakfast. The four mast sailing ship is the Margarette Todd. I wish I had a huge zoom lens, don’t you?

Balcony View

This is the view from our hotel room’s balcony. I didn’t realize until a few minutes ago (around 9:00am) that our room sort of faces East. I’ll see about the view at sunrise tomorrow morning.

Look at that puppy over there! She’s HUGE!

We’re going to Acadia National Park today, including a visit to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. Expect lots of pictures in the future. Film and digital. On the film side, expect color and black and white. I’m out of control!

WiFi Blues

We drove up to Bar Harbor in a little more than five hours. We met Bellana at the hotel and then walked about a mile to the downtown neighborhood for lunch. After a couple of hours Jen and I went back to the hotel and I unloaded my camera. Well, the digital camera. I did take some film but those need to wait.

I have 41 photos to add to Flickr. Flickr’s uploader has been working for 15 minutes and hasn’t managed to upload a single shot yet.

I gots them mean old hotel wifi blues, babie doll.

We might have to wait until Monday night or Tuesday to upload the pics. Oh well. You’re all heartbroken, I can tell.
