The Bruins Ruined My Summer

Summer was already looking like a downer, thanks to the slow start our mediocre Red Sox got off to, but it was ruined for good when the Bruins lost game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals.  I mean it.  I had a bunch of St Louis fans at Disney World give me shit for wearing a Bruins t-shirt.  After that game I lost interest in all sports for months.  I just couldn’t risk having my pro-sports heart broken again.  I apologize to the Red Sox for this.  It wasn’t them, it was me (even though they were pretty much shit from day one).

Now here we are on Bruins opening day.  They play Dallas tonight at 8:30.  I want to love again, I truly do, but is it worth the risk?  Do I jump back into the fray even though it was the Bruins who hurt me so?

We’ll see how I feel about eight hours from now.  I’ll let you know.

Fat

The other day I went to the grocery store to pick up dinner for my wife and step son and I bought a small stash of junk food for myself.  When I got home I put it on top of the refrigerator because I’m ridiculously tall and no one else in the house is ridiculously tall and if I stash stuff there no one will see it.

What the fuck is wrong with me?

I was down 30 pounds.  Am I still down 30 pounds?  No.  I doubt if I’m still down 3 pounds.  I’m done.  I am going back to weight watchers on Saturday and getting my stupid moron off the wagon ass back onto the god damn wagon.  As of this moment I am also 100% on board for weight loss surgery.  Granted I’ll probably start chickening out any second now, but at this particular moment in time?  I’m in.

I am so sick of hating myself.  Maybe if I hate myself more I’ll do something about it.

If you comment on this post I won’t read it.  Ever.  So don’t.  I don’t want to hear it.

Guitar Nerd Lament

I think I might take my Big Muff clone off of my pedal board.  It sounds great, but it just can’t compete with the klone/OCD combo.  I’m just not using it enough to justify carrying it around.  I’ve been using a Wren and Cuff Super Russian on the band board and either a Wren and Cuff Tri Pi ’70 or a Way Huge Russian Pickle on the stay-at-home board.  I will probably keep one of them on the stay-at-home, but I don’t use it very often at home anymore either.

It makes me sad.  My NYC reissue EHX Big Muff Pi was the cause of me becoming a pedal junkie in the first place.  It opened the flood gates in a way no guitar gear ever had before.  It feels like I’m turning my back on a hero.  What to do, what to do.

The Tumnus/OCD combo I have on the band board sounded pretty great at practice this weekend though.  I did use the Big Muff on one song, and tried it on another but the other guys complained that something sounded wrong.  I switched back and they were happy.  So was I, though I was also sad.

I did last year’s RPM Challenge with the Tumnus as my only source of dirt.  Maybe next month I’ll do NaSoAlMo using just the Super Russian.  Probably not, more likely it will be the KTR, but maybe.  Who knows.

Sad.

The Second Annual Lizardfish Cookout

Yesterday was the second annual Lizardfish cookout.  In other words, Mike had a cookout on a Sunday and we had a band practice right in the middle of it.  Here are the highlights and the lowlights.  Harry tested out his Noise app on his Apple Watch and discovered we hit 107 decibels.  If that’s not rock and roll I don’t know what is.
