My Spot

Christmas presents were finally hung. The one on the right is the star chart for the night of our first date. The two on the left are Rush awesomeness. The top one is a clock. I love clocks. I love Rush. The bottom one is a metal plate and it’s awesome. There is no doubt who sits at that desk now.

Minority Opinion

We watch a lot of Marvel movies in our house. I think I’ve seen them all but one (Thor 2… I’ll get to it, don’t worry) and even when they aren’t that good they are still great.

I have to confess something though. Most people will disagree, and it may be shocking to hear but…

I still prefer DC Comics to Marvel.

Always have, always will.

Are the DC Movies great? Not even close. Are they as bad as people say they are? Probably. Do I still enjoy them? Yup. I most definitely do.

I’m a little behind right now. I haven’t seen Birds of Prey or Joker. Even with all the rave reviews and Oscar buzz, I still haven’t seen Joker. I’ll get to it, don’t worry.

Two things happened yesterday that relate to this. First, I was looking through the menus on HBO Max and came to their DC page. Joker is there, and I’ll get to it, but the one that jumped out at me was The Killing Joke. I’d heard it was okay. Like most of the DC movies, nothing special. I actually read that book though so I gave it a look. It was okay. Mark Hamill pretty much IS The Joker. The only real thought I had was that it’s time to bring Bat Girl into the live action movies. I once heard someone suggest Margaret Qualley from The Leftovers and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for the role and from that moment on she’s been it for me. Whatever.

The other thing was I saw a cast photo from Wonder Woman 1984. It comes out in October, but I’m ready. Wonder Woman is hands down the best DCEU film. It’s the only one that holds up in comparison to Marvel. It was fantastic. Is it the best DC movie ever? For my money it’s either that or Dark Knight.

Anyway, looking at all the DC movies listed in the HBO Max menu, and knowing that Wonder Woman 2 is on the way, I decided to binge/prep for it. I started watching Batman vs Superman. I was about an hour into it when I realized that HBO doesn’t have the extended version, so I switched over to Apple. I’ve had to start and stop a bunch of times but once I finish (40 minutes to go) I’ll move on to Wonder Woman, and then to Justice League, and then I’ll be fully prepared for the next movie. I’ll also be prepped for the Snyder Cut of Justice League, even though it’s going to take a long time for them to have that release ready to go. I’m looking forward to that one too.

So yeah. I still like the DC movies. Wanna make something of it, tough guy? I didn’t think so.

UPS Update

For those who put bets on what time UPS would change my estimated delivery to Monday, it happened just after 9:30. That was half an hour after the estimated delivery time.

The status changed again. We are once again showing in transit to Chelmsford, MA even though the package has been scanned into that very location at least four times over the last week, including twice today. The best part is the latest activity. “Delay: Emergency Situation or Severe Weather.”

Are you fucking kidding me here?

June Music Project: Complete

11 songs, a shade over 40 minutes. Consider it done.

Back in April I could post a playlist from hearthis.at and it worked. In May it posted all right but only played the first track. Does it work in June?

ADDENDUM: Nope, it only played the first song. If you’re desperate to punish yourself, go here.

Also Ran

I think this one might be good. I think. I’m not sure. I’m really close to it, but I am more excited about this than any song I’ve worked on since RPM in 2019.

Is it good? No… don’t tell me. Let me be excited for a while. Don’t burst my idiot bubble.

Neil is Still Gone

Last night after work Jen and I went for a drive to nowhere. She put on some music. I didn’t ask for anything, I just planned to listen to whatever she wanted.

She picked some Rush. Clearly she’s brilliant with impeccable taste. Hold Your Fire mostly, but also a little Power Windows.

The song “Grand Designs” includes the line:

Some world-views are spacious

And some are merely spaced

That pretty much sums up our idiot world, doesn’t it?

The world sucks without Neil Peart in it.

Addendum: UPS Status

In my last post I said my never ending, never to be delivered package was out for delivery. That is incorrect. The tracking status is actually Loaded on Delivery Vehicle, not Out for Delivery. In other words, it’s still in the Chelmsford building.

It has been in Loaded on Delivery Vehicle status for over four hours.

Four hours.

Insert frustrated sigh here.
