I hung a bird house next to the front door last year and no birds ever made use of it.
I just hung one in the same spot. I figured I’d give it one more try.

A few years ago, I hung a ball of colored strings and yarn, and cat fur, and birds used that for nearby nests.

Cool bird house. Birds can be very picky home buyers. They look at many things when selecting the right nesting site.
One criteria they look for is stablization. Try to mount your bird house in a way that it will not move, sway, or twist.
Also always make sure the opening is facing an open area. They like to peek out and take a good look aroumd before exiting the nest.
