Christmas Eve

Hello and welcome to christmas eve! It was 55 degrees out yesterday and it’s 10 degrees out right now. That’s a 45 degree swing in about 15 hours. Hooray! Also, I have a bad stomach ache this morning. It’s all winning today, left and right. Hooray!

I have more cookies to bake today. I am finished with today’s exercise. What else. Don’t think I am going out to take christmas eve pics because, as mentioned, 10 degrees Fahrenheit. I am certainly not going to the ocean. To hell with that frosty noise.

Okay, time to start the day. HoHoHo

Also, Jen sent us this a few minutes ago. Apparently Santa Claus gets a fighter escort from NORAD in both the US and Canada. Nice of the red suited dude to slow down for them, right?

Post Office Crazy

I went to the post office at lunch. Shipping film off to get developed was not the primary reason for the expedition, but it did happen. I keep track of which rolls of film were shot on which camera/lens/film in a notes document shared between my iPhone and my Macbook Pro. Roll 00 was the one that was in Dad’s camera when I took it. Roll 01 is the roll that broke. Roll 02 was the one I shot at Hampton Beach on the 4th of July, ect, ect. Roll 08 was the first black and white roll (Kentmere 100) and it’s sitting in the film draw in my desk. Roll 09 is in Dad’s camera as we speak. Roll 10 is the one that went out in the mail today. Why out of order? Roll 10 is the one that used Dad’s Pentax lens with my Nikon camera via an adapter I bought on Amazon. That is the gear setup I want to use at Disney World in two weeks. I needed to see some shots taken with that setup to make sure it worked, so that’s the roll that went to Old School Photo Lab today. Rolls 08 and 09 will get developed after the Disney stuff is done. Probably roll 11 too because I’d like to be able to shoot a few color film shots on Christmas morning. I need to finish roll 09 first because I don’t want anything in my Nikon until we’re in Florida. That may involve a trip to the ocean at sunrise tomorrow. We’ll see how the weather looks.

None of that is what this post is about though.

This post is about the traffic. Holy Shit! The Post Office is one mile from my house. Unfortunately you have to drive through Methuen center to get to it. That one mile took almost 15 minutes. Wow. I was in the post office for probably three minutes (done and done) and then I was back on the road. I had to take a left coming out of the parking lot though and the traffic was so bad that I took a right and circled downtown to get home. That took 10 minutes. The straight, no turns route took longer than the roundabout way out of the way route. It’s christmas so… yeah.

Also the Post Office’s front door was gone. Where did it go? Why did it go? Was it something I said?

Here are two stop light pics. Stop Light Theater at it’s best.

Getting Around

It is super warm out today but it’s also crazy windy and pouring rain. I went out for a pre-work errand. It didn’t seem terribly bad out at our house, but as soon as I went one block there were branches down and power outages, and when I got to CVS the wind was blowing so hard it was difficult to open the car door.

Having said all that, I have to go back out again at lunch. WOOHOO!

Christmas Eve Eve

It’s christmas Eve Eve. The last work day before a three day Santa Clausy weekend. The work days have been quiet this week and I am thankful. Remind me to mention it next Thanksgiving.

My father is home from the rehab hospital. Did I mention that yesterday? I can’t remember.

There’s supposed to be an ass kicker of a rain storm going on outside right now. When I got out of bed around 5:40 (an hour ago) I looked outside and it didn’t seem too bad. I might sneak over to CVS after they open and see if I can get a padded mailing envelop and a sharpie or two. I have something to ship to Minnesota and it is bugging me that I haven’t taken care of it yet. I also finished my test roll of film that combines my Nikon camera with Dad’s Pentax lens. I want to send that roll off for developing to make sure the combo works before I take it to Florida. I might take the lens that came with my camera from ebay too even though it’s in pretty rough shape. Maybe alternate days? Dad’s lens the first time we go to a specific park and mine the second? Who knows.

I just finished a (simulated) four mile run. If I had actually run four miles my legs would have fallen off and my head would have exploded. You know how it is.

Christmas Eve is a big day ’round these parts. We have a little family get together every non-Covid year. This year, in the spirit of hybrid work environments, we’re having a sort of hybrid christmas eve get together. That just means the guest list is smaller and there won’t be as much food consumed. The food thing doesn’t have anything to do with the guest list, it just means I don’t have a stomach anymore. I would also like to visit both of my parents, if I can. I would also like to take Dad’s camera to the ocean, maybe. I would also like to clean the kitchen and the bathrooms and the living room a little, but that won’t take a lot of time. We’ll see if I can get to any of that stuff.

Today, apart from the usual work day stuff, I want to bake cookies and make Tewksbury Tweets. We made the dough for the cookies yesterday, but it needs to sit in the ‘fridge before going in the oven. I wanted to make some Tweets, but there was a cat documentary on Netflix and you know how that is, right?

Okay, time to eat some breakfast and take a shower and do all of that boring morning stuff that doesn’t make for a good blog entry but I often write about anyway because I am a stinking rank amateur at this stuff.

More Fun with Editing

I played around with another not-so-good looking film pic today. This time I used Gimp instead of Lightroom Mobile, and I only used auto functions.

What do you think? This is the scan from CVS…

This is what Gimp’s auto color functions did to it…

As with yesterday, still not great but it looks a little more accurate now. I tried editing things manually and after a few minutes it looked sort of like a cartoon. Shows you what I know, right?
