I mean… how stupid do you have to be?
An 18 year old high school student from Methuen was arrested yesterday for making “terroristic” threats on his facebook page. He did things like mention killing a lot of people, and outdoing the marathon bombers. Here’s a story from the Eagle Tribune.
I mean… just… ummm… really? I ask again, how stupid can you be? I mean… you know… doing this at any time since 9/11 would be the absolute pinicle of stupidity, but to do it now… half an hour from Boston… today… just two weeks or so after two doucehcanoes set off bombs at the Boston Marathon… and to mention outdoing said douchecanoes? I mean… I mean… Can a human be more idiotic than that? Is it physically possible to do anything more stupid than that? I don’t think so. I think this is the single dumbest crime ever commited in the United States of America, if not the world. This 18 year old high school kid now sits in prison with a $1,000,000 bail and he faces 20 years in jail. TWENTY FREAKING YEARS!!! How did this kid not see this coming? He put the damn post onto Facebook for Christs sake! How can a member of the human race be that stupid? I mean… what the hell, kid??

The clock is ticking. One week to go until the league’s deadline to cancel the season. One week to go until the unthinkable happens… again… and the league cancels the whole entire season. One week.
And the two sides didn’t meet face to face yesterday. Are you kidding?
So here are two of the remaining sticking points.

The league wants next season’s salary cap to be 60 million dollars. The players want next season’s salary cap to be 65 million dollars.
Both sides have agreed that term length of the new collective bargaining agreement (assuming they ever actually agree to one) should be ten years. The players want an option to back out after seven years. The league wants an option to back out after eight years.
There’s also an issue dealing with player pensions that seems like it might be a legitimate problem, but is still something that a little give and take should be able to resolve in a short time. Still though… they are hung up on seven years vs eight years, and 60 million vs 65 million. Really. Both sides are saying that publicly. Honestly, they are. Both sides are so incredibly stupid that they are risking the cancellation of ANOTHER NHL season over these issues.
My god people, how much of a collective group of assholes can you be? For the salary cap? How about 62.5 million. Problem solved! As for the term length, I have a more complicated solution. Take a coin, right? Flip it. Heads means the opt out is seven years. Tails means the opt out is eight years. Problem solved!
They have had a Federal mediator at all of the recent talks. I swear that poor son of a bitch must be ready to just start punching these idiots. Meet with the players and punch Donald Fehr in his World Series canceling head. Meet with the players and punch Gary Bettman in his season canceling head. BOOM! Problems solved! Drop the damn puck!

How much does a bullet cost?
I Googled “buy ammunition” and this site was the top hit returned.
Just a quick glance shows prices like, 1000 rounds for $225.00, or $0.225 per round. 880 rounds for $165.00, or $0.1875 per round. My favorite headline on the site was 500 hollow point rounds for $285.00, or 57 cents a piece.
So let’s just say that bullets are not expensive. Cheap, even.
Now let’s calculate how much the life of a human being is worth. Incalculable? How much is the life of a six year old child worth? How much is the life of a school teacher in Connecticut worth? How much are the lives of a class room full of elementary school kids worth?
I have no idea. No one does. Priceless? That sounds right to me. More than half a buck? Duh, absolutely. Obviously. It’s insulting to even consider that.
So how is a bullet that exists for no reason other than to end a life worth less than a buck? Worth less than a quarter? How is that a fair trade? We should change our system so that the value of a bullet is the same as the value of the life the bullet ends. I would even be willing to sell the bullets at a massive discount. How about we take that $0.57 hollow point bullet and add a tax to it. I say we tax it at about 20 million percent.
0.57 * 20,000,000% = 0.57 * 200,000 = $114,000.
Compare $114,000 to the value of a human life and you are still getting that hollow point bullet at an obscene discount. What a savings! The 2nd amendment still applies. You still have the right to bear arms. You still have the right to be a gun owner whose chosen home security device is statistically more likely to end the life of either you or a member of your family, but now the price for your weapon’s ammunition more closely (but still not that close) equals the value of that which it was created to destroy.
It sounds like a fair plan to me. Actually, it doesn’t, but it sounds more fair than the current system.
