Sick

I woke up sick this morning. Major stomach pain, gas, and nausea. I feel really bad. I called in sick to work. I have a couple of meetings I still want to sit in on, but outside of that I’m sitting on the couch feeling gross.

I’ve only managed eight ounces of liquid so far today (it’s 12:40pm) but it hasn’t helped settle my stomach. I haven’t managed any food yet but I’m going to try a tiny little protein bar and see what happens.

Wish me luck.

Sick Day

I took half a sick day today. I’m home. I just feel not good. I might just be exhausted, but I think i’m coming down with something. I’m so tired I can barely function. Only one more duty for the day left to me. I have to get the kids at their dad’s. After that? Robbie achieves a vegetative state. (not really, I will still be there for the family, I’ll just veg in between taking care of whatever any of them need)

Wish me luck.

It Continues

Am I still sick?

Oh yeah, you betcha.

I feel about the same as yesterday. Cough, sneeze, stuffy, runny, the whole kit. I am going to work today though, but I’ll work from home. We are always short handed on Friday afternoons so I was going to be punched in this afternoon even if I was in the hospital. I figure I can suck it up for the full day and then go back to bed when I punch out at 5:30.

I slept a little during the day yesterday, and then went to bed about 8:30. I was planning on just putting the Bruins game on the radio and vegging until sleep claimed me, but they were playing so poorly that I switched to music. I was still awake when the kids went to bed at 9:30, but not much after that. I woke up a few times during the night, but only for a minute here and there.

I expect this weekend to be a washout. I hear it’s supposed to rain the whole time anyway. I suppose getting sick during bad weather is preferable to getting sick in good weather. Probably not, but let me have this delusion at least.

Speaking of the Bruins. They played a generally sucky team last night and lost. They also lost Zdeno Chara for 4-6 weeks with (I believe) a knee injury. I was worried that the lofty expectations were going to bite us on the ass, as they did with the Red Sox, and here we are… a 4-5 record and our best defenseman out for a month or more. It’s going to be a long year.

Hopefully I won’t be sick for the whole thing.

Thoughts from the Sick Bed

On Tuesday I got up at about 6:00am.  I took the trash out to the street, and I moved my car out of the driveway so Jen could get her car out.  I then went back to bed.  I woke up again at a few minutes to 9:00 and called into work.  I then went back to bed.  At just about noon I heard a really loud bang that seemed like it came from out front of the house.  It sounded like a washing machine being dropped into a dumpster (exactly like that).  I got up and did a walk around the house to make sure everything was okay.  I then went back to bed.  When my wife came home, also sick as a dog, at 3:30ish I got up to let her in.  I then went back to bed.  At about 7:00 I got up and sat on the couch to visit with my beloved.  That lasted about 10 minutes and then we nyquilled it up and went to bed for the night.  I was probably out of bed for maybe 30 minutes in the entire day.

Today I did a little better.  I got up and sat on the couch long enough to watch an episode of Bob’s Burgers.  Later I actually drove to the store to get my dearest some orange juice, and then I cooked us both a can of chicken noodle soup.  We ate together, sitting on the couch watching a movie.  After that we went back to bed.  The kids are on their way over right now.  I got up to open the door for them.  My heart’s desire is still in bed.  I’m going to have to get them dinner, and to cook some more chicken noodle soup for me and my beautiful wife.  I think I can handle all of that.

I don’t know about tomorrow though.  There are a couple of things in the office tomorrow that I have to be there for.  I cannot call in sick, but I don’t know how I am going to pull myself together by then.

To make matters worse, the NHL didn’t even have the common decency to end its lock out while I was stuck in bed.  I figured two full days of not watching the kettle would be enough for the talks to boil over to an agreement.  Nope.  Assholes.

The Black Plague: Day Two

I’m still sick. I was hoping to be well enough to go back to work today, but its not happening. I spent the whole day in bed yesterday. I slept a lot, and the rest of the time I just lay there with my eyes closed. I tried to keep myself hydrated, but its tough to drink clear liquids when you are asleep. In did my best though.

I’m going to head back to bed now until its time to call work. I didn’t eat anything yesterday, so maybe after I call in I might try a piece of bread or something.

Want to hear the best part of all of this? Jen has it too. She left work early yesterday and called in this morning. Merry freakin’ Christmas.

I’m Sick and I’m not Happy About It

My step daughter had a nasty cough over the weekend. I started showing some signs of catching it late Sunday night. On Monday morning I was coughing, but otherwise okay. After lunch, however I started getting congested too. I had a bad feeling about today.

Sure enough, when I woke up this morning I was much worse. I felt like I had a fever, and I had a bad headache too. The kind of headache that gets worse in the light. When I called in to work my boss said he expected to hear from me. He also said that he went home earlier than he had planned yesterday because he didn’t want to catch what I had.

Woooops. Sorry about that.

Anyway, I guess it’s back to bed with me! Urgh… Crud.
