Two Local Political Events

Today is March 5th here in Massachusetts. This year that means two things.

First and foremost, it is Super Tuesday today. That means it’s Primary Election Day here as well as a bunch of other states. I have not voted yet. I plan to vote after dinner tonight. It’s going to be tight as far as time goes, but the polls are open until 8:00pm so I should be able to get there with time to spare. Keep your fingers crossed.

March 5th also has another noteworthy event, historically speaking. Today is the anniversary of The Boston Massacre. On this day in 1770 a bunch of Bostonians were shot by English troops. It was an important event that turned into one of our nation’s most famous propaganda vehicles, thanks in part to this Paul Revere image:

I could have sworn I had a photo of the victim’s memorial that is in the Granary Burial Ground in Boston, but I can’t find it anywhere. I guess I’ll just have to go for a walk down the Freedom Trail this summer to take another pic.

Ukraine

I haven’t had much chance to keep an eye on what’s going on in Ukraine today. It’s almost all bad news. Russia hit them from three directions and attacked a handful of major cities. As usual, it’s impossible to tell what is real information and what is propaganda from one side or the other.

I know the West put some serious economic sanctions on Russia and apparently their markets have had a seriously bad day. I know there have been major anti war protests in Russia even though I believe it’s illegal. How much of that is real and how much is misdirection? I don’t know. I saw a few headlines about Ukrainian forces driving Russian forces out of a couple of towns. I really like the sound of that but at the same time, that reeks of propaganda.

This is literally my worst fears of my early teens coming to life in front of us. Russia invading their neighbors. Granted back then Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union so now Russia is just trying to get back to the good old days? Didn’t Putin used to work for the KGB? Or was it GRU? something like that.

I like to think of myself as a pacifist. I don’t know if I qualify, or if maybe I have too much of a temper. Who knows. I am against war in general and the last thing I would want is to see us pulled into something that gets my fellow Americans hurt. Having said that though… have we considered inviting Ukraine to join NATO today? That’s what this is about, right? One of Putin’s demands was that NATO agree to never offer membership to Ukraine? What would happen if the entire might of the Western world showed up in Ukraine tomorrow? I actually know the answer to that question. The answer would probably be Russian nukes.

Apple Pissed Me Off

I have the Apple News widget on my iPhone. It just gave me a headline talking about some idiotic covid-19 conspiracy. What the fuck is that, thought me. It was a Fox News story. Why the fuck is a Fox News story showing up on a News app? What idiot at Apple let that right wing nazi propaganda bullshit company onto their news app? Thanks for insulting my intelligence, Apple. What the fuck? I am so pissed off right now I can’t even. Why not just put adam nazi jones or some bullshit like that? News? News, my ass. What the hell, Apple. You need to be better than this. This is unacceptable.

COVID-19 PSA

Here’s a little public service announcement to all the numb nutz fascist collaborators spouting their bullshit saying the media is creating the panic and using the H1N1 outbreak as proof.

COVID-19 IS NOT THE FUCKING FLU.  THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING.  THEY ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO SIMILAR.  THE TRANSMISSION AND DEATH RATES FOR COVID-19 ARE ASTRONOMICALLY HIGHER THAN H1N1, YOU FUCKING MORONS.
