Tampa Bay Lightning win the Stanley Cup

It was never really in doubt, but a minute or so ago the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup for the second consecutive season. More importantly, the Montreal Canadiens did not win the Cup. For me, a Bruins fan and not even a little bit of a Lightning fan, seeing Montreal lose was the real goal. I really, really hate the Montreal Canadiens. I mean I really, really hate them.

I don’t actually want to be the guy who roots against a team rather than actually rooting for their opponent. I don’t want to be that guy. The only exceptions involve the New York Yankees and the Montreal Canadiens. Boston’s history against those two teams sort of flush good sportsmanship down the toilet. For this fan, at least.

Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The hockey gods smile upon you for beating Montreal. Amen and all that.

Damn it, Tampa Bay

They failed to complete the sweep. Montreal won game four 3-2 in overtime.

Damn it, Tampa Bay. You had one job. Eliminate Montreal in four games and win the Stanley Cup for the second consecutive year. One friggin’ job.

Game five is Wednesday night in Tampa Bay. Win it at home, Lightning. Or else. Or else what? Exactly.

Stanley Cup Final – Game Four – Third Intermission

You read that correctly. They are heading into overtime tied at two. Tampa Bay is going to start the OT period with three minutes of power play time thanks to an idiotic high stick penalty against Montreal. I’ll take it.

Let’s go Lightning!

STANLEY CUP FINALS – GAME FOUR – Second INTERMISSION

Well that feels a little better, but not by much.

After two periods the game is tied at one. Tampa Bay scored kinda late in the period. It was a sweet goal. Let’s hope that charges up the Lightning and demoralizes the Canadiens. I need this series to end tonight.

You hear me, Tampa Bay? It needs to end tonight!

Stanley Cup Finals – Game Four – First Intermission

The nightmare is coming true. After one period, Montreal has a 1-0 lead. Granted it’s one period and they are down three games to none in the series, but speaking as a Boston fan who saw a team come back from down 3-0 in 2004 and saw another team lose after being up 3-0… Let’s just say any inkling of positivity for The Canadiens hurts my soul.

Let’s get it back, Lightning.

Stanley Cup Final – Game 3 – Final

Three games to none, babie! The Lightning beat the hated Canadiens 6-3 in Montreal tonight to take a three games to none lead in the Stanley Cup Final series. The only downside is that we have an extra day off before game four.

Tampa Bay goes for the sweep in Montreal on Monday night. Let’s hope they finish it off. Don’t give Montreal even a tiny scrap of hope!

Stanley Cup Final – Game 3 – 2nd Intermission

After two periods the Lightning have a 4-2 lead. The Canadiens have doubled their goal total from the first two games and that is awful. Fortunately the team that isn’t the spawn of satan still has a decent lead.

20 minutes to go, Tampa Bay. Hang in their, guys.

Stanley Cup Final – Game 3 – 1st Intermission

After one period in game three the Lightning have a 2-1 lead against the evil.

I know having a two games to none lead does not equate to a must win for Tampa Bay, but when Montreal is concerned? Total must win.
