M&M’s

As New York visits go, today was very subdued. We are staying near Times Square and we didn’t really venture beyond much at all today. We went to a few stops and had a relaxing day. We also spent some time in the hotel room and watched both Captain America movies.

Tomorrow is Rush, so it will be a busier day.

I have to say though, that the epicness of the M&M store in Times Square cannot be overstated. I could live in that joint!

Start Spreading the News

Start spreading the news
I am leaving today
I want to be a part of it
New York, New York
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it
New York, New York

I want to wake up in a city
That doesn’t sleep
And find I’m king of the hill
Top of the heap

These little town blues
Are melting away
I’ll make a brand new start of it
In old New York

If I can make it there
I’ll make it anywhere
It’s up to you
New York, New York

New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city
That never sleeps
And find I’m a number one
Top of the list
King of the hill
A number one

These little town blues
All melting away
I am gonna make a brand new start of it
In old New York

And if I can make it there
I’m gonna make it anywhere
It’s up to you
New York, New York, New York

New Tallest Building?

While we were in New York my beloved, beautiful, angel, brilliant wife read a news article about new skyscrapers. It said that there were going to be two new buildings in Manhattan that would be taller than the Empire State Building. I thought it was referring to the future. Apparently, that future is now.

Earlier today I read this New York Times article about an ugly new slim jim of a skyscraper that is already not only taller than the Empire State Building, but it’s taller than the Freedom Tower sans antenna.

That’s when I realized, that I’d already noticed this new building.

It’s that ugly eyesore towering over everything else in the picture. While on top of the Empire State Building I thought it looked taller, but couldn’t say for sure. Maybe my eyes were being tricked, or maybe they were just frozen. I’m also pretty sure I had not noticed it the last few times we were up high in New York.

So there you have it. That skinny, ugly, wisp of an anorexic looking building is the new 2nd tallest skyscraper in New York.

I’m on the Top of the World, Ma!

It seems like a wasted trip if you visit New York and don’t go to the top of a huge building. Still, we weren’t planning on climbing the Empire State Building last weekend. We were just walking south on 5th avenue and there were so many rude, arrogant, pushy, assholes trying to sell us Empire State Building stuff that we blew them off and then went into the building just to spite them. It was a great idea, of course, but it was so… effin’… cold… Actually, it was cold but not bad when we first stepped out onto the observation deck. It wasn’t until we turned a corner to look East that it hit us. The wind. Oh. My. God. The wind chill dropped the temperature from really cold to OH MY GOD ITS TOO COLD TO SURVIVE. That’s when we went back inside.

Looking south toward the only building in town that is taller than the Empire State Building. The Freedom Tower is supposed to have an observation level, but it’s not open yet.

The Statue of Liberty just looks so teeny tiny.

Psst… hey… all of these New York pics are using my new lens. How’s she doing?

There was a huge warehouse fire in Brooklyn that took about two days to put out.

You can actually see the boats shooting water onto the fire.

The Chrysler Building is still my favorite of all the New York skyscrapers.

Normally when you go to the top of the Empire State Building it is absolutely mobbed. On this day? You might have guessed, this corner was getting the worst of the wind. The word of the morning was, “Brr”.

New York Public Library

I’ve seen the New York public library before, but I’d never gone in. Last weekend while walking down the street with no set plans in mind, we decided to go inside and check it out. The word is, large. Opulent is another word.

The Swankiest Room on Earth

Want to see the room we stayed in last weekend?

You’re gonna be jealous.

As jealous as we are poor now.

Yes, we had a television embedded into our bathroom mirror. Yes, that’s a thing.

And that, friends and neighbors, is the sweetest suite on Earth. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go cry over the fact that we are now dirt poor.
