Exploring Methuen

My beloved wife and I did some wandering around Methuen today.

We went to our tiny little downtown…

We also visited the Mighty Spicket river walk.

You should always leave your shopping cart in the coral. Otherwise it will end up in the river.

Welcome to Flood Season

This is not an April Fools post. I know it’s on the internet, so statistically speaking you wouldn’t be wrong in expecting an April Fools post, but this one is just a normal boring Rob post.

The weather channel reported that there is a flood watch in effect for my neck of the woods. The flood level for The Mighty Spicket River is eight feet. As of this morning the river was at 8.1 feet. One of the spots being watched is the Hampshire Street bridge. I left the house early this morning and paid a visit. I should have brought my real camera but I didn’t. I only had my iPhone.

0.1 feet might not sound like a lot, but it’s enough to spill pretty far over the banks.

Forgiving my stupid shadow, you can see that the water is almost up to the bottom of the bridge. It’s not enough to worry about yet, but it looks like we’re one rain storm away from closing the road.

Here’s the view from the other side of the street.

The area right at my feet is usually dry land.

Again, pardon my stupid shadow. This makes me wish I had my ND filter so I could take some long exposures. Maybe tonight after work?

Most of what you see here is usually dry land.

I parked my car in what I believe is a bus company’s lot. I didn’t even notice that the back end of the lot was under water until just before I left.

One more for the road. Yet another lame attempt at being artsy. Urgh.

CameraBag for Mac #3

One more CameraBag post for now. This is the wrecked dock just up river from the dam on the Spicket River in Methuen. I wanted the colors on this one to pop more than they did. Let’s see if I can get the app to bring them out.

Here’s the original:

How’s this? This is why I used to love the Lolo filter on the iPhone app. It just makes the colors come flying out at you.

This one is called Candy.

This is a camera filter called 1958 Camera.

Finally we have a filter called Film NC-1D. I don’t know what that means, but I like the results here.

The Timing is Just a Little Off

If my step daughter were like two months older she would OWN this thing! Why couldn’t they have this thing in June instead?

Sands Bridge Thoughts

I mentioned the other day that part of the Sands Bridge had collapsed. I didn’t realize I had a picture of it. I think it is worse now, but looking at this pic I am not so sure anymore. I will get back there one day soon. The snow we’re supposed to be getting this week will of course mess up everything, as it always does when it snows after the first day of Spring.

Gatehouse

When you have a house like this but it is only the gatehouse to your estate… you are probably doing all right in life.

It’s the Methuen Historical Society office now, but it used to be just a gatehouse to some rich dude’s summer home. Status symbol… yes.
