Tomorrow is the mid-term election.
Don’t forget to vote (where applicable).
I am strongly considering voting for Mickey Mouse for the office of Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

It’s election day in Massachusetts. Make sure you get out and vote. In my city, it’s the mayoral election that will draw the voters in. Make sure you show up and have your say, like a good responsible citizen.
I can’t take the damn camera out of the damn bag without screwing the damn filter onto the damn lens and opening the damn shutter for 30 damn seconds.
The water seemed a little choppy as I was setting up, but it doesn’t seem much different. I mean, it’s nice and glassy and smooth and all, but it’s not a huge dramatic difference.

The wind did interesting things with the branches in the foreground, but that’s not really the goal. And it’s sort of distracting.

The water is pretty cool here, but I lost the shore to the shadow.

There was a ton of traffic on the bridge, all of which was blurred into oblivion. Sweet.

And with this we end the forth post I milked out of about 45 minutes of wandering around town. Sweet.

There’s a parking lot right near the 110/113 rotary on route 93 that looks like it might once have had a boat launch but it’s pretty much fallen apart now. It’s been on my list of places to go to to shoot some Merrimack pics and today I finally stopped there.
This might be my favorite of the bunch. It’s just the leaves reflecting on the water.

We haven’t gone leaf peeping in New Hampshire this year, so I just went ahead and did it at home.

I posted the other day that someone else on Flickr posted a picture of a smashed up dock stuck on the Spicket River just above the dam. I went back today and again failed to come within a million miles of the great pic posted to Flickr.
This is the best of the new pics. Not that it’s good.

The reflection in the water is almost nice.

These are probably better than the first go around, but still not good. Was it fun? Yup!

There will be two more posts from this morning’s goofiness. One is pics from the Merrimack River, the other is 30 second exposures from the Merrimack River.
Go Red Sox
Every weekend night at bed time for the last few months I’ve been checking the weather forecast for Salisbury Beach. Any time it called for clear skies I would tell my beloved wife that if I found myself awake about an hour before the sunrise I was going to make the half hour drive to the beach and take a few pics. The idea was to have sunrise pics to complement the sunset pics we took at Mission Beach in San Diego last year. Because, you know, I am a total dork like that. It never happened. I even set the alarm clock a couple of times, but I just never got myself out of bed.
This morning I woke up at about 3:30am and never fell back to sleep. The forecast called for clear skies. At 5:20 or so I figured, I’m awake anyway… what the hell, right? I also needed to be up early to take the Nissan to the dealer for some routine work. So I just did it. I went to the ocean and snapped some pics.
Here’s a good chunk of them.
I was there with about 20-25 minutes to spare, and the sky was bright enough to see without any trouble. I killed time by snapping waves and sand and everything.
Check out that sky. I mean, right?

I wasn’t the only nerd on the beach. There was a couple to my right who were posing a stuffed animal in front of the ocean. There was another group of three people hanging out to my left who were just visiting and waiting for the sun to arrive. There were also some folks out on the water, apparently.

Even though the sun still hadn’t come up yet, I was digging the way the sky reflected off of the wet sand.

The Atlantic may be a total wimp compared to the Pacific, but she still snuck in a few decent waves.

The birds are flying South for the Winter. The jerks.

This guy doesn’t seem to be in a rush to get down South.

I guess there was stuff behind me too.

There’s one little spot on the horizon that’s getting brighter…

One thing I remember about our Pacific sunsets is that the sun was not too terribly bright when it reached the horizon. You could look right at it, no problem. That was not the case today. It got really bright, really fast. I put the neutral density filter on not long after the sun first poked it’s head above the water. Sunglasses for the camera, if you will.

The farther out I zoomed, the less light made it in.

At this point the sun was well and truly up, and it was time to head to the Nissan dealer. Check off another of the goofy ideas I have for photo shoots. Done and done.
So let’s see here. I posted the long exposure pics from Tuesday. I posted the normal Forrest Lake pictures. I posted the Grove Street pictures. All that’s left is the non-long exposures from the Spicket Falls Dam. Guess what’s coming now!
I’ve seen the flow over the dam both much lighter and much heavier than this. Doesn’t matter, I like it no matter what.

I still haven’t been up on the walkway. Somehow it feels to me like I would be trespassing if I did.

Even with the light flow over the dam, you get a pretty good rush of water underneath.

The water on Tuesday looked pretty dirty to me.

A lot of the old mill towns in the Merrimack Valley have converted their old abandoned mill buildings into condos or apartments. This, I hear, is Methuen’s mill-turned-apartment. Not 100% sure of that, but I think that’s true.

And that, kids, is everything worth sharing that I took on my little walk around on Tuesday. Just a little touch of my town, Methuen, Massachusetts.
