Lowell
I said I was going to do it on Saturday and then didn’t.
I said I was going to do it on Sunday and then didn’t.
I didn’t say I was going to do it on Monday and then did it.
I took a couple of cameras out with me this morning. I went to downtown Lowell. Market Street, specifically. I walked from the parking garage to the train museum, shooting film the whole way. Then I turned around and went back, shooting digital the rest of the way.
I was going to stop at another place or two after I finished with that neighborhood, but the ticket machines in the parking garage were down and I couldn’t get out. I had to call their office for help, and while trying to move from one exit lane to the other I clipped a cement post and dented my car. I am so effin’ pissed at myself. I just went home.
Here are some pics.
I still have about half a roll of black and white Kentmere 400 in my film camera. I need to finish that roll before Disney World so I can load it up with color film. Probably just cheap drugstore Fuji. I could shoot black and white at Disney World but that feels wrong. I need to go color. Assuming I am going to bring a film camera with me when we go. I am still undecided on that, but I am leaning toward bringing it.
Morning Photo Nerd
I made two photo stops today. I tried for three, but all of the parking lots near the riverwalk behind the Tsongas Arena in Lowell were blocked off and I just gave up.
I stopped along the train tracks near the old duck pond in Andover. I took a couple of digital and a couple of black and white film pics.
Now that I have taken train track photos I feel like a real 21st century photography nerd. It’ll be more impressive when I get the film shots back, assuming they come out okay.
I was annoyed by my failure in Lowell so I took one of the Aiken Street bridge in auto mode while I was driving across. Take that, Lowell.
Next stop was Riverside Park in Methuen. I was getting some Merrimack River shots today and there was nothing you could do about it, universe.
There is a new little fishing dock at this park. It helped me get all artsy and nerdy. Blurry background, don’t you know.
By this point both film cameras had run out of film. I now have three rolls ready for development. I will wait a few weeks before I send them out. I haven’t decided if I am bringing film to Disney World, but if I do I will bundle them all together. We’ll see what happens.
So… downtown Lowell tomorrow morning? Maybe.
Morning Plans?
The weather is supposed to be okay in the morning. Should I take the cameras out for a walk? I want to, but I also want to sleep late. If I do go out early I don’t want to go far. Maybe the park along the river in Methuen. Maybe the train tracks near Dascomb Road in Andover. Maybe the riverwalk behind the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. Some place close, but not the usual two or three stops in town. I don’t know. I guess it depends on what time I fall asleep tonight.
Harry and Jen are going out to run some errands in the late morning. Jen’s mom might be coming for a visit. I want to make some music. The fifty songs in 90 days thing has kinda gone down the crapper. I haven’t touched it in 18 days. More or less. I could still pull it off, but do I still have the motivation to try? I don’t know.
The weather looks decent on Sunday too. Maybe some sunrise at the ocean? We’re into the second half of August now. We’re running out of good weather days. I should do something while I still can. We’ll see.
First though, before I fall asleep, how about some Doctor Who. 2nd Doctor, season five, episodes 23-28, The Web of Fear. Sounds like a plan. Bring on the Yeti.
Get Out There
I need to shoot film!!!
I need to get outside and shoot film again. I’m going stir crazy with all these raining, cloudy, miserably awful weather days. Spring was a bust and Summer isn’t looking much better.
Detour Through Lowell
Highway traffic heading north was insane today. Coming back from my dad’s I detoured through Lowell. Pics from the road.

Lowell
I was in Lowell today.
Geese: Canadian
Riverwalk in Lowell
My final stop today was the riverwalk on Pawtucket Blvd in Lowell. The Merrimack looks huge there and I don’t think the shots came out very good. At least they don’t look as good as actually being there looked. I don’t know.
There are a couple of places where you can walk right to the water’s edge. My favs from the visit were taken at one of those spots.
The bridge in the distance is the Rourke Bridge. The story as I have heard it is the bridge was built by the Army Corps of Engineers as a temporary structure… back in the 1970’s (I think)… and it’s still there with huge amounts of traffic sitting on it around the clock. Either that story isn’t true, or it probably isn’t a good thing.
That’s my old school across the river, but that parking garage wasn’t there when I was a student.
And we close the post with a faux artsy lamp post shot. Like ya do.
And that is the end of my picture taking bonanza of a PTO Friday. Tomorrow we go to Vermont and we may take the scenic route… so hopefully another blitz of pics tomorrow. Bring it on, babie!
In Search of Cobblestone Streets
After my less than stellar sunrise trip to the beach (get it???) I drove over to Lowell, Massachusetts, the former home of the Lowell Lock Monsters, to wander around their rather depressed down town area in search of Cobblestone streets. I found two off of Market Street. I took pics of other things too though, so don’t worry.
I took a handful of shots outside of the Trolley Museum. I was there to get a shot of the clock tower across the street (city hall?) but I got a few train-related pics while I was there.
There are a lot more things to see in Lowell, even just in the downtown area. I’ll go back. Next time I will try to focus on the river more, and maybe some bridges.
