Game 1 in the Books

After losing all four games against the Ottawa Senators this season, the Bruins heroically took game one of their first round playoff series against the Senators.

The post season is underway and somehow, magically, the Bruins are part of it… and they won’t get swept!

This has been a pretty good night, right?

Go Bruins!

I will post my first round predictions eventually.  Or I won’t.  I don’t know.

Bruins – Deja Vu All Over Again?

The Bruins have nine games left.  They are the third seed in the Atlantic division with 82 points.  Toronto is in fourth with 81 points and they are sitting in the second Eastern wild card spot with 11 games left.

Or, that was the case before play started tonight.  Toronto just beat Columbus.

So now the Bruins are out of the Atlantic playoff spots and are sitting in the second wild card spot.  The Islanders are four points back with 11 games left.

Why do I feel like I’ve seen this movie before?

Each of the last two years the Bruins have collapsed in the last days of the regular season and dropped out of the playoffs at the last second.  Am I wrong in fearing that we’re being set up for the same fall this year?  They’ve already lost three in a row.  Is the collapse under way?  I don’t want to believe it, but damn it the evidence is clearly stacking up.  Three final stretch chokes in a row?

It can’t happen again…

Can it?

Bruins: A New Era

It’s a new era for the Boston Bruins tonight. The first game in the Bruce Cassidy era. Do you have to refer to it as an “interim era”?

Claude Julien is a hero for what he did with the Bruins. Stanley Cup, anyone? Despite his triumphs, I agreed that it was time to go. Two playoff free seasons and this one really feeling like a third. It was time for a change. Let’s see how Cassidy does… although personally I don’t expect much difference. Personally, I feel the Bruins problems stem from higher up the management food chain. I’m looking at you, Donny Sweeney… and I’m looking at you out of the corner of my eye, Cam Neely.

Go Bruins

The Bruins Win The Season Opener

The Boston Bruins opened the 2016–17 season last night with a win against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Everyone who is happy that they kicked off the new year with a win, raise your hand.

(Robert raises his hand)

Everyone who walked out to the middle of the Tobin Bridge when Tuukka Rask let in a goal on the very first shot he saw this season, raise your hand.

(Robert raises his hand)

I am so glad hockey is back (especially after the pathetic way the Red Sox season ended) but I know full well that it’s going to be a long year.

Calendar Hate

The one single month that I hate the most out of all of the months on the calendar is DecemberJanuaryFebruaryMarch.

September is a close second. Why? Because summer ends in September. First the temperature drops, then the leaves start to fall, and then summer ends. Screw you, September. I hate you. Hockey training camps and pre-season games make the pain a little more bearable, but not much. Not enough.

Ugh… I hate you September. You suck.

Happy September 1, world.

On Again Off Again On Again

So… remember a couple of days ago when I said that I fell off the wagon on Friday but was back on the wagon on Saturday?

Well I fell off the wagon on Sunday.

I was home with my step son. We were watching Star Wars movies. There was this big tub of pretzels. I tried to fight them off but I couldn’t, and next thing I know half the tub was in my stomach. I didn’t want to eat them all, I just did. Then later I had a buffalo chicken dinner with 40 tons of french fries from a pizza/sub shop in town. I didn’t want to eat it all, I just did.

It’s over though. It’s Monday now and I am back on the wagon again. I’ve been good today. I will do my best to be good tomorrow. I will not try to continue to be good. As Yoda said, Do or do not, there is no try. I choose to do!

Thank you for the moral support, Yoda! I for one did not think it was ridiculous when you put down your cane and started kicking ass with your miniature light saber. I thought, well they don’t call him Master for nuttin’!

Speaking of ridiculous, go to Google news and search for articles about the new Star Wars Episode VII trailer. The articles themselves aren’t necessarily ridiculous, but the comment sections… Oh. My. God. Wow. Just… Wow.

I’m sorry. I’m feeling a little cynical. I get this way when I really, really need to see a Bruins game and they are playing on the west coast. I mean, really. 10:00pm start times just blow chunks all over the ice.

Historical Significance

There are two events of historical significance happening today.

First, in Scotland people are voting on whether or not the country should remove itself from the United Kingdom. I can’t really have an opinion on this, not being Scottish or from the UK myself, but I think if Scotland leaves it would feel a little like Jack Bruce leaving Cream. Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker would still be staggeringly amazing, but without Jack? It just doesn’t work.

Second, Bruins training camp opens today. The cleansing of last year’s intolerable playoff defeat at the hands of Montreal begins in earnest. I want hockey revenge!

Back to Scotland, the best joke I’ve come up with in ages is that if Scotland becomes independent they should join up with Ireland. They can call themselves U2K.

Get it?
