Daytona Beach

Celebrating the fact that Spring Training is over and the Major League Baseball season is starting by sharing another picture of Daytona Beach in Florida because the Grapefruit League is done for another year. Is there an actual connection there? No, not at all.

Dude, Meter for the Shadows

robertjames1971's avatarRob Shoots Film

I keep saying I should meter for the shadows, but this was in aperture priority, so technically I wasn’t metering this myself at all. I should try to go fully manual, but with my camera the display in the meter is so tiny I can barely read it at all. I should get a swankier camera then, right?

Someday I will get a good long exposure shot of a spinning merry go round. This day was not that day.

As for the before and after Lightroom, I think the colors are okay but over all I over did it… again.

Can I Fix a Disaster?

robertjames1971's avatarRob Shoots Film

After messing with Lightroom on my iPhone yesterday I posed a question to myself: Can I use Lightroom to fix a disaster? The answer is a resounding no, though maybe if I actually knew what I was doing I could have better results.

Here is a terrible shot from Epcot Center:

Yet another clock picture. The camera was in aperture priority mode (what the Nikon FG-20 actually calls Auto mode) and clearly the light meter was looking at the sky and not the foreground. Oh well.

Here is my very funny attempt at fixing things with Lightroom on my iPhone:

I mean, I guess it’s a success as you can see the things that were buried in shadow, but it’s a fail in that they just look ridiculously awful. If I knew what I was doing, would I have done better? Probably not. The picture was a disaster after all…

Mickey Mouse Watch

There was a time in the long distant past where I really wanted a Mickey Mouse watch. My sister had one, I think. I wanted one too. I have an Apple Watch now, and the first watch face I used on it was the Mickey Mouse face. It’s still one of the few that I use.

Ocean

My last photo of the Atlantic Ocean was taken at Daytona Beach in Florida. The next one will probably be Salisbury Beach in Massachusetts, or maybe Hampton Beach in New Hampshire. I just need the temps to be a little warmer before I go for a visit.

Pretty stoked that I got that bird in the shot, even though you can barely see it or tell what it is. It’s there. Nice job, Robert.
