Lots of Deer

I’ve been seeing deer nearly every day over the last couple of weeks. In the past it’s often been a case of seeing one means there are five or six more out there and if I look hard enough I find them. So far this year though there have never been more than two, and it’s most often just one. I wonder if something happened to the rest. I hope they are all right.

Deer in May

Three deer came by the house today to try and cheer me up after the Bruins game one double overtime loss last night. I was able to take a few pics.

There hasn’t been a lot of Spring growth in the woods behind the house yet, but there seems to have been enough to make my autofocus go crying home to mommy. Most of these were manually focused. I usually don’t do very well manually.

This pic was the first one I took. She heard me open up the bedroom window.

We are getting to the time of year when deer sightings become very rare. This picture makes me wonder, are deer sightings rare in the Spring and Summer because they don’t come around, or are they rare because those buggers are camouflage masters? Trust me, there is a deer in this picture.

The Phrase of the Day

The phrase of the day is…

Deer Poop.

The kids and I just went outside to clean up the winter’s worth of trash and junk that had blown into the yard and the woods surrounding the yard. I delved deep into the wilderness to grab two plastic bags that were messing with all my deer pics. On the way there I found a lot… and I do mean a lot… of deer poop.

Suddenly I have so much respect for Patches and her litter box.

Blurry Deer

Twice today I had the opportunity to take a few pics of wild animals in the back yard, and twice today there wasn’t enough light for me to get anything other than blurry messes. Mostly, at least. This morning it was a bunch of turkeys. This evening it was six deer. They came into the yard as opposed to the woods behind the yard, where we usually see them. They seemed to be checking out the bird feeder. Yet another group of mammals who don’t know that bird food is for birds.

NHL Trade Deadline Postscript

Chiarelli, Bruins Fulfill Intention of Bolstering Defensive Corps – Boston Bruins – Blog

Well if Peter Chiarelli calls Andrej Meszaros bolstering the defensive corps then I guess we have to take his word for it.  Personally I’m not so sure.  It seems clear the guys he wanted all went elsewhere at surprisingly low cost.  Why couldn’t we get anyone better when we had the same picks and prospects that other teams sent in their trades?  I don’t know.

Meszaros might be a decent pick up.  He was paired with Zdeno Chara on the Slovakian team in the Olympics, as well as in the distant past in Ottawa.  More likely he’ll fill the same roll he filled in Philly:  Healthy scratch.

On the upside, we just saw seven deer in the woods behind the house.  We also saw a chipmunk but I don’t think that was related.

RPM Challenge – Day 3

I put rhythm guitars onto the three existing songs today. The first two got the 12-string, and the third got the ES-335 with lots and lots of wah-wah.

The playlist won’t embed for some reason, and the one I posted the other day won’t update (I’ve since deleted it) so you get a link today. Bad Music Found Here.

The second song doesn’t have any drums. I’m trying to decide if I want it to stay that way. I think I do. I’m not sure though. I tried using the GarageBand Drummer function again but I wasn’t pleased with the results. I think it’s better without the drums. I can’t decide.

Completely changing the subject, there were a bunch of deer in the woods this morning. They were all over to the side of the house. I saw one staring intently toward the street. Something out there spooked her because she bolted off in the opposite direction. All of the others followed. I counted six as they were running by. It was pretty cool.

The Deer are Looking at Me

I can’t wistle loud, but I tried. I made a little noise, but it was enough for some of the deer to actually look at the camera. Look at ’em mugging it up.

So ummm… WordPress.com and Flickr. So Flickr changed their embed code. WordPress, it’s time for you to update so that we can use this new code. I mean. What the hell?

Deer – A Video

I got a little video of the family (herd?) or deer today. I tried to count a couple of times. Once I think I saw nine. Later I could only find eight. They are slippery little camouflaged buggers.

61 seconds of frolicking deer. Soundtrack by Ty Tabor (who I just happened to be listening to in the other room as I took this).
