Almost Here

Spring is so close I can feel it.  It’s almost here.  It is less than a week away.  Next Wednesday, 3/20/13 (or 20/3/13 if you don’t live in the United States.  I’m an international kinda guy, ya know?) marks the start of Spring and more importantly, the end of the friggin’ winter.  I hate winter.  I love Spring.

I am 21 minutes away from starting work for the day and I’m going to be swamped all day.  Add that to the impending Spring kick off and it gets me thinking about weekend get aways.  We are already hoping to go to Quebec on a long trip, and possibly back to San Diego (I’m getting low on vacation time!) but what about quick, relatively local get aways.  That’s what I’m dreaming about this morning.

Places like Lake Winnipesaukee…

Or Bar Harbor…

Or Lake George… okay, that requires more than a weekend, but still…

I do so very much love the Spring time.

Lazy Deer

We were getting ready to go to the mall so my wife could go gadget shopping.  I happened to look out the window and saw a deer in the woods!  It’s been so long since I’ve been able to snap a picture!  This time was a first for me though.  The deer I saw was at the top of a hill near the edge of the woods behind our house and he was laying down.  Just sitting there, being all lazy.  I called Jen and grabbed my camera.  I opened the window in the bedroom to get a good shot and after staring for a few minutes we found another deer, then another!  The third was in front of a tree and looking right at us.  We eventually saw more.  We weren’t sure if we saw five or six.

I do so very much love when the deer come to visit us.

Snowmageddon 2013

This is becoming a trend for me.  Pictures of the street lights during snow storms.  Granted I haven’t taken any pictures of a storm of this magnitude yet.

Snowpocalypse 2013

Stay warm and dry out there folks. Better yet, don’t leave the house!

La Jolla

It’s been about nine months since last we went to California. I’m getting the travel bug once again. We should spend more time in La Jolla on the next visit. If we plan on living there after we win millions in the lottery, then we should get to know our way around, right? Right?

Hopefully our next visit to La Jolla will include sunshine. We should keep going back until the weather gets it right.

What’s Going On Tomorrow?

Tomorrow is Martin Luther King Day. I am supposed to have the day off. No dice. I’m working the holiday coverage. This is the non-national coverage like I did on Veteran’s day, not the hell on Earth on call like I did on New Year’s Day. I volunteered for this one so that I could pass on President’s day next month with a clear conscience. February is RPM Challenge month, and every day off counts.

But is anything going on tomorrow? Maybe in Washington or something? I hear there is quite the to-do scheduled for this location…

I would love to see an Inauguration one day, even one that is just ceremonial like this one. The Constitution requires the President to be sworn in on 1/20, so the President and Vice President took their oaths of office today. Tomorrow they will go through it again, but it is just for show. What a show it will be. I still get chills thinking of President Obama’s first Inauguration. What a day that was.

Someday we’ll go. Hopefully when we do it will be to celebrate some one we voted for.

Sunrise Over Canobie Lake

The one upside to taking the kids to their father’s house before school in the morning is that sometimes we get a brief glimpse at the sun rising over Canobie Lake.  This morning on the way there it was just barely above the trees and it looked spectacular, with the lake all covered in yesterday’s snow and all.  After dropping the kids off I stopped for a photo op.  It wasn’t as awesome as it had been five minutes before, but it was still an excellent view.

I tried getting a sunrise picture last week using my iPhone.  This time I was better prepared and took my Nikon.

I will probably wait for Spring to try this one again, although the timing of the sunrise with the pre-school drive will be all out of whack.  Maybe on a vacation day.  Who knows.  These would be better if the lake was actually water.

Completely Pointless Kitty Picture

While I was taking the pictures to use in the Favorite Toys page the cat came strolling downstairs meowing like the world was ending. She has been very noisy in general tonight. I tried to pet her and, as always happens when she encounters a human in the cellar, she ran upstairs like her tail was on fire. I called to her and she sat at the top of the stairs looking down at me.

Naturally, I snagged a pic.

This is Patches. When we adopted her, her name was Panache. When she was first taken to the shelter her name was Panic. 99 times out of 100 I just call her Kitty. She probably thinks that’s her name.

She’s cute.
